'No politician should use such language': BJP chides Mamata Banerjee for personal remarks against PM Modi
N EW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday took strong exception to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's personal remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP MP Sambit Patra, addressing a press conference called out Banerjee saying that "no politician or elected representative should use such language." Banerjee, hours after PM Modi's rally in Bengal's Alipurduar, had claimed that the central government named India's retaliation against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, 'Operation Sindoor' for "political gains". Further ramping up her attack, Mamata cried foul over PM Modi's "language" claiming that "you (PM Modi) are not the husband of everybody." She further went on to add, "why are you not giving sindoor to your Mrs first?" During his rally in West Bengal, the Prime Minister had declared from the "sacred land of Sindoor Khela" the rousing success of India's Operation Sindoor. He went on to explain the powerful symbolism behind the naming of the operation. The Prime Minister said that the Army had given an emphatic response to the terrorist who had dared to "wipe away the sindoor of our sisters." — BJP4India (@BJP4India) BJP's Patra during the press briefing also discredited reports that the BJP was planning to distribute vermilion (sindoor) to women to mark the Modi government's anniversary. He accused opposition parties of using it to discredit the Centre's anti-terror operation. 'They are belittling India's military action for political gains,' he said. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP's IT cell, also called the report fabricated and accused Banerjee of behaving 'like a troll'. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate responded by saying the BJP had only disowned the sindoor campaign after facing backlash. The West Bengal CM's remarks had followed PM Modi's rally in Alipurduar where he launched a fierce attack on the TMC government, alleging that it had failed on multiple fronts including women's safety, youth employment, and corruption. He cited recent communal violence in Murshidabad and Malda as evidence of lawlessness under the TMC. Banerjee hit back, alleging that the BJP had orchestrated the Murshidabad and Malda unrest and that Modi was trying to divide the country. 'In Bengal, we have a humanitarian government. But the BJP insults tribals, SCs, minorities—even Hindus. The dignity with which women live in Bengal, do we see the same in UP, Bihar, Assam, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh?'

TMC hits back at PM Modi's claims, counter questions on Manipur, paper leaks and unemployment
Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of diverting attention from the BJP-led Centre's failures, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday (May 29, 2025) posed five 'counter-questions' in response to the PM's remarks about crises allegedly affecting West Bengal. Operation Sindoor not yet over, PM Modi says in Bengal's Alipurduar | LIVE In a post on X, the party called upon PM Modi to first "fix the mess" in Manipur, which had witnessed severe law and order problems for over two years. "Modi ji listed 5 'Sankats'. Let's talk facts," the TMC said in its official X handle. Modi ji listed 5 "Sankats" Let's talk facts: Law & order? Manipur has been burning for 2 years. Fix your mess first. Women's safety? From Unnao to Hathras, @BJP4India's track record is soaked in silence and shame. Youth hopelessness? Paper leaks, NEET scam, and 45%… — All India Trinamool Congress (@AITCofficial) May 29, 2025 Coming to other posers, the party said, "Women's safety? From Unnao to Hathras, @BJP4India's track record is soaked in silence and shame." "Youth hopelessness? Paper leaks, NEET scam, and 45% unemployment - BJP's national gift to students," the regional party said. "Corruption? Half your Cabinet is out on bail. Irony died a slow death," the party said, turning the corruption charge towards the Modi cabinet. The party also reiterated the claim that "Bengal was denied MGNREGA and Awas Yojana funds due to your (Modi) government's vendetta politics." Murshidabad, Malda incidents stark examples of TMC's cruelty: PM Modi Launching a blistering attack on the TMC government in West Bengal, PM Modi on Thursday said the State is "plagued" by violence, corruption and lawlessness, and asserted that people are now yearning for change from the "Nirmam sarkar" (cruel government). Addressing a rally in Alipurduar, the Prime Minister said incidents of communal violence in Murshidabad and Malda are grim reminders of the TMC regime's "cruelty and indifference" to the sufferings of ordinary citizens. "Today, West Bengal is grappling with a series of crises. People don't want 'Nirmam Sarkar'. They want change and good governance. That is why the whole of Bengal is saying they don't want cruelty and corruption anymore," PM Modi said. "First is the widespread violence and lawlessness that are tearing apart the fabric of society. Second is the growing sense of insecurity among mothers and sisters, compounded by horrific crimes committed against them," he said. PM Modi said the third crisis in Bengal is the deepening despair among the youth, driven by rising unemployment and lack of opportunities, while the fourth is the "pervasive corruption" that is eroding public trust in the system. "The fifth crisis stems from the self-serving politics of the ruling party, which is stripping the poor of their rightful entitlements. Incidents in Murshidabad and Malda are stark examples of the cruelty of the TMC government and its failure to maintain law and order," he said.

Goa is not lab for BJP's experiments, says Cong on Centre's suggestion about nuclear plant
Opposition parties have objected to the Centre's suggestion to set up a nuclear power plant in Goa, with Congress saying the coastal State is not "a laboratory for BJP's dangerous experiments". Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday (May 12, 2025) said that the Central Government has suggested that the States examine the feasibility of setting up nuclear power plants in their respective areas and send proposals. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Khattar said he had discussed the possibility of setting up a nuclear power plant in a review meeting of the Urban Development and Power sector in Goa. Goa is not a laboratory for @BJP4India 's dangerous experiments. I strongly condemn Shri @mlkhattar's absurd proposal of setting up a nuclear power plant in our peaceful, eco-sensitive state of Goa. The @BJP4Goa has already destroyed Goa's hills, forests, Agriculture & rivers —… — Amit Patkar (@amitspatkar) May 12, 2025 In a post on X, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar said, "Goa is not a laboratory for @BJP4India's dangerous experiments. I strongly condemn Shri @mlkhattar's absurd proposal of setting up a nuclear power plant in our peaceful, eco-sensitive state of Goa." He alleged that the BJP government had already destroyed Goa's hills, forests, agriculture and rivers, and it now wants to put people's lives at risk with a nuclear hazard. "We will resist this anti-Goa agenda with full force. Our land, livelihoods & environment are non-negotiable," Mr. Patkar wrote. The Aam Aadmi Party's state unit president, Amit Palekar, questioned the need for a nuclear plant in Goa when Kaiga in Karwar (Karnataka) has a facility. The Centre and State government are out to destroy Goa, he said. "@AAPGoa will fight tooth and nail if any such misadventure is attempted. Lakhs of square meters of Goan lands have been given to private universities etc., all with the interest of BJP functionaries, and now whatever is left of Goa is sought to be destroyed with such projects. Who has interest in this?" he wrote.
