‘One nation, one poll' will boost GDP by 1.56%: Bansal

HYDERABAD: BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal on Tuesday claimed that 'one nation, one election' will boost the country's GDP by 1.56%. Speaking at a meeting held here to discuss 'One Nation One Election', Bansal elaborated on the advantages of having one election across the country. Stating that elections are important to maintain democracy, he said that simultaneous elections will lead to transparency. 'From 1952, when the first elections were held, till 1967, the country has seen four simultaneous polls across India. Since then there have been at least one election across the country every year. Because of these frequent elections, India has been always in election mode, hindering development in the country,' he added. He further added that during elections, the model code of conduct comes into force, which obstructs not only development, but also the dream of good governance and obstructs the flow of welfare schemes to people at the ground-level. Stating that each voter spends approximately Rs 1,400 to cast a vote for every election and the government has spent over Rs 1.35 lakh crores in the 2024 elections, the BJP national general secretary said that with one election the spending by the people as well as the government will reduce considerably. Telangana State General Secretary (Organisation) Chandrashekhar, BJYM National Treasurer PM Sai Prasad and several others also spoke at the meeting.

BJP MP slams K'taka govt over compensation to Pahalgam victims

BJP National Youth Wing President and Bengaluru South MP and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) National President Tejasvi Surya said that if the Karnataka government has even a shred of humanity, it would have given at least Rs 1 crore each as compensation to the families of the two victims killed in the terrorist attack. 'If such an amount had been kept in a fixed deposit in a bank, the families could have survived and educated their children with the interest earned. In the neighbouring state of Kerala, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given Rs 15 lakh to victims who had died in an elephant attack. But here, despite the horrific nature of the terrorist attack, the Karnataka government failed to provide even that much, expressing disappointment over the state government's attitude,' he said while addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters 'Jagannath Bhavan' in Bengaluru. He said it is futile to expect more from a Congress party that has "sold itself for Muslim votes" and asserted that it is the responsibility of the Hindu community to support these families. He mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) had organised a torchlight rally in Bengaluru South condemning the terrorist act and had appealed during the event to collect compensation higher than what the state government offered. He noted that about Rs 20 lakh had already been collected from the public. Surya announced that the BJP would hand over Rs 10 lakh and one rupee to Bharat Bhushan's family and Rs 10 lakh and one rupee to Manjunath's family in the next couple of days. Tejasvi Surya further informed that R.V. University had responded to his request and had written a letter promising to bear the complete education expenses of Pallavi Manjunath's son, Abhijaya, up to his postgraduate degree. He said he would personally deliver this letter to her. Additionally, Transcend, an educational institution on Kanakapura Road, has agreed to provide CBSE education from 1st to 12th standard to Bharat Bhushan's three-year-old child. A letter to this effect has already been sent to Sujatha Bharat Bhushan, he said. Moreover, Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bengaluru has pledged to take care of the healthcare needs of both families for the next 11 years. They have also issued letters confirming this commitment. Tejasvi Surya expressed gratitude and appreciation to all three institutions. He emphasised that temples, Hindu religious trusts, Hindu philanthropists, and industrialists across the state should come forward to fulfil their responsibility and support the affected families. He criticised the state government by stating that the terrorists did not just target the Government of India but the entire Hindu community. Despite the brutal attack, the state government announced a mere Rs 10 lakh compensation, he said. Tejasvi Surya questioned who advised the Chief Minister to announce such a paltry sum and whether the Chief Minister had lost all sense of humanity and reality. He pointed out that Manjunath's household has a boy who scored 97 per cent in his PU exams and still has at least 8–10 years of education ahead. Similarly, Bharat Bhushan's home has a three-year-old child, and his mother must shoulder the burden of educating him for the next 25 years. He lamented that a few days ago, Islamic terrorists in Pahalgam had specifically identified Hindu men and killed them in front of their wives and children. These terrorists did not randomly kill tourists; they deliberately targeted Hindus, he stressed. Tejasvi Surya criticised the existence of sections within the state and the country that refuse to acknowledge this brutal truth, even when victims' families openly spoke about it. He noted that while Asaduddin Owaisi had admitted that Hindus were killed because of their religion, the Congress leaders still refuse to acknowledge this reality. He added that nothing better illustrates the decline and degradation of the Congress party. State spokespersons Ashok Gowda, Mohan Vishwa, and Surabhi Hodigere were also present at the press conference.

‘She's my daughter': How Kashmiri guide Nazakat Ali saved BJP leader's daughter from terrorists in Pahalgam attack

'She's my daughter': A Kashmiri guide, the cousin of the only local killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, saved the life of a BJP leader's daughter by calling her his own. Arvind Agrawal, a member of the Chhattisgarh unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was in the Baisaran Valley when the heinous terror attack, in which 26 tourists were killed, took place. Hailing from Raipur, Agrawal was on a holiday in Kashmir with his wife, children, and several family friends—11 people in total. Two days after the attack, the BJP leader wrote a heartfelt post for Nazakat Ali, their tour guide, and said, 'You risked your life to save ours. We will never be able to thank Nazakat bhai enough.' Arvind Agrawal's Facebook post Talking to The Quint over the phone, Arvind Agrawal said he and his group ducked upon hearing gunshots and screams from nearby, and had also attempted to jump the fences to escape. However, he said, his four-year-old daughter Samriddhi got scared by the noise and started to run across the open ground. While his friends physically held him back, his wife, Pooja, followed their daughter to rescue her. 'I was confused whether it was the sound of bullets or crackers. My wife, Pooja, by then, had already reached the middle of the ground where my friend and his family were,' he said. But to save the day, 'Nazakat bhai was with them.' 'He was holding my daughter,' Agrawal said, adding that when a terrorist asked Nazakat who the girl was, 'he replied that she was his daughter. He left after.' Agrawal shared that the local ponywallahs then helped them escape on ponies. He also said that the locals then helped take his wife to the hospital, as she had fractured her shoulder. 'While escaping, my wife fractured her shoulder, and with the help of locals, we were taken to the Pahalgam Hospital.' Nazakat Ali told the Quint that he was playing with the children when he heard gunshots. 'I was playing with the children when we heard one or two shots going off. We assumed some children were playing with crackers, but the firing increased around that time. So, I grabbed the children and took off,' he said. He said the 'incident marks the death of humanity,' but he is thankful to have been able to save the tourists and their children. 'It should not have happened at any cost. I just find happiness in the fact that I could rescue those 11 people and make sure they reached home safely,' Nazakat said. He shared that Arvind Agrawal and his family took shelter while he carried their children to their cars. 'I then took them to Pahalgam, from where they were taken to Srinagar,' Nazakat recalled.
