Don't 'politicise' stampede incident, says BCCI VP Shukla

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president and Congress MP Rajeev Shukla believes the ruling party, Congress, "should not be blamed" for the stampede that broke out outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations on Wednesday. After the stampede incident, Karnataka Legislative Council member, BK Hariprasad, said that 11 people, including a woman, died in the stampede during the event. Shukla feels the stampede outside the stadium should not be "politicised" and revealed he spoke to the franchise. According to Shukla, RCB didn't expect such a huge crowd to attend the celebrations. He also assured that efforts are being made to provide maximum help to the families of the deceased. "This can happen in any state, and the ruling party should not be blamed for it. It should not be politicised. If this happens in a BJP-ruled state, we should not blame them. The crowd was huge. I spoke to the franchise, and they also did not think that such a huge crowd would come, and this incident happened suddenly. Efforts are being made to provide maximum help to the families of the deceased," Shukla told reporters. "The government did stop the roadshow in order to avoid a stampede or any such situation. But it was not anticipated that a stampede would happen outside the stadium. Everybody should work together on the damage control," he added. Opposition parties in the state, including the Janata Dal (Secular), have squarely blamed the Congress-led state government for what they describe as a complete failure of planning and public safety. Union Minister of Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said the primary reason for this "massive tragedy is the lack of proper planning and complete failure to take precautionary measures". Kumaraswamy, a former Karnataka Chief Minister, said the state's Congress government must take full responsibility for this disaster. "The tragic incident of a stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory celebrations, resulting in the unfortunate death of people, has left me deeply shocked. It is extremely painful to see innocent lives lost even before the celebrations could begin," he said.

Siddaramaiah launches real-time 'CM Dashboard' for development monitoring

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday launched the Chief Minister's Dashboard, a real-time governance platform offering integrated insights into the state's key development indicators. The launch took place during a review meeting with Deputy Commissioners and Zilla Panchayat CEOs at Vidhana Soudha, news agency PTI reported. Developed in-house by the Centre for e-Governance (CeG) and hosted at the platform uses a microservices-based architecture and integrates data from various departments via APIs, removing the need for manual entry. (Also Read: 6-year-old girl killed as heavy downpour causes landslides in Coastal Karnataka) The dashboard monitors Karnataka's performance across four main sectors: Economic Growth (investments, welfare beneficiaries) Legal/Judicial Management (RTI, Sakala disposals) Infrastructure Development (roads, irrigation, renewable energy) Citizen-Centric Governance (Guarantee Schemes, Janaspandana) Officials say the dashboard aims to enhance transparency and decision-making, allowing public access to track key government schemes and service delivery in real-time. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday reviewed the law and order situation in Mangaluru, days after the murder of a Muslim youth in Bantwal triggered tensions in the coastal region. Prohibitory orders remain in force in parts of Dakshina Kannada district until May 30. The Chief Minister met Congress MLC BK Hariprasad at his residence to discuss the unfolding situation. 'We held a general discussion on the current atmosphere in Mangaluru. It is essential to foster communal harmony—there should be no hatred between Hindus and Muslims,' Siddaramaiah told reporters after the meeting. He added that Hariprasad has been asked to visit the region to help in peace-building efforts. Referring to the pattern of retaliatory violence in Dakshina Kannada, Siddaramaiah assured strict legal action against all those involved, regardless of their political or social influence. 'The law is above all, and we will act accordingly,' he said. (Also Read: DK Shivakumar inspects flood-hit Manyata Tech Park, orders demolition of structures blocking water flow)

"We have to clear dirt left by BJP in Bengaluru, it will take time": Congress leader BK Hariprasad

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 21 (ANI): Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad on Wednesday said BJP, during its tenure in Karnataka, focused more on communal politics than on the development of Bengaluru. Congress leader said the present government is working to clean up the 'dirt' left behind by the previous administration, but added that the process would take time. Speaking to ANI, Hariprasad said, 'When the BJP was in power, instead of concentrating on the development of Bengaluru city, they were busy with the communal agenda. We have to clear the dirt that they have left in Bengaluru, and it will take a little time.' Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Karnataka Leader of Opposition (LoP), R Ashoka, said that if Rs 1,600 crore worth of projects had been carried out, Bengaluru wouldn't be in this state. BJP leaders are criticising the Congress-led Karnataka government over its handling of the situation. R Ashoka demanded that the government explain what it has done for Bengaluru in the past two years. He further stated that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited Sai Layout and promised development, but no funds have been released for it. Flooding occurred at Silk Board last time as well, yet no development funds have been allocated. BJP leader Ashoka accused the Congress government of diverting funds meant for Bengaluru's development, leading to inadequate infrastructure and flooding issues. 'During the BJP's tenure, Rs 1,600 crore was provided for stormwater drains and road development, but Congress cancelled those projects. If those works had proceeded, such flooding wouldn't have occurred. Instead of allocating funds for Bengaluru's progress, the money has been misused for other purposes. All funds have been diverted to the tunnel road project, and now every road in the city has become a tunnel, he alleged. The government had promised to install sensors in flood-prone areas, but no work has been done,' he added. Similarly, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi questioned the Karnataka government on what they were celebrating when they were unable to manage the havoc created in Bengaluru due to the heavy rains. (ANI)
