CPO Futures Close Higher On Stronger Export Data
By Rosemarie Khoo Mohd Sani KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives (BMD) ended higher on Friday, buoyed by stronger export performance as outlined by cargo surveyors, said palm oil trader David Ng. According to cargo surveyors, Intertek Testing Services (ITS) and Amspec, exports for the first half of August rose by 16 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, compared with the same period in July. However, Ng said the expectation of rising output in the coming weeks is weighing down on sentiments. 'We see prices supported at RM4,380 per tonne and resistance at RM4,500 per tonne,' he said to Bernama. Meanwhile, Mumbai-based Sunvin Group commodity research head Anilkumar Bagani noted that Malaysia's strong August palm oil export, along with a resurgence in Chinese demand, has supported palm oil prices today, despite the bearish overnight soybean oil market on the Chicago Board of Trade. At the close, spot-month August 2025 was unchanged at RM4,338 per tonne, September 2025 rose RM67 to RM4,425 per tonne, and October 2025 increased RM69 to RM4,472 per tonne. The November 2025 contract rose by RM75 to RM4,511 per tonne, December 2025 expanded by RM78 to RM4,528 per tonne, and January 2026 climbed RM75 to RM4,526 per tonne. Trading volume slid to 81,890 lots from 88,920 lots on Thursday, while open interest rose to 249,718 contracts from 244,194 contracts previously.

CPO Futures Down On Profit-taking, B50 Delay & Weak China Vegoil Prices
CPO Futures Down On Profit-taking, B50 Delay & Weak China Vegoil Prices By Rosemarie Khoo Mohd Sani KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives (BMD) closed lower on Thursday, pressured by profit-taking following calls by an Indonesian industry group to delay the B50 biodiesel mandate. According to reports, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association cited supply constraints, noting that meeting the 50 per cent palm oil blend requirement would need a sharp rise in CPO output. This would divert supplies from the export market and reduce revenue from export taxes which are used to subsidise the biodiesel programme. The B50 mandate is a national initiative aimed at reducing fuel imports and cutting carbon emissions. It requires a 50 per cent blend of palm oil-based biodiesel with fossil diesel fuel. Mumbai-based Sunvin Group commodity research head Anilkumar Bagani said the market was also weighed by losses in rapeseed oil futures on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange, as well as weaker palm oil and soybean oil futures in China. 'The stronger Malaysian ringgit has also put pressure on ringgit-denominated prices,' he added. Anilkumar noted that any delay in implementing the B50 mandate would 'take out a lot of bullishness from the palm oil market.' Meanwhile, palm oil trader David Ng said market sentiment was further dampened by concerns over weak demand in the coming weeks, following the recent price rally and seasonally high production levels. 'We see prices supported at RM4,350 per tonne and resistance at RM4,450 per tonne,' he added. At the close, the spot-month August 2025 and September 2025 contracts fell RM29 each to RM4,338 per tonne and RM4,358 per tonne, respectively, while October 2025 decreased RM32 to RM4,403 per tonne. The November 2025 contract shed RM34 to RM4,436 per tonne, December 2025 dropped RM39 to RM4,450 per tonne, and January 2026 declined RM35 to RM4,451 per tonne. Trading volume slid to 88,920 lots from 97,321 lots on Wednesday, while open interest rose to 244,194 contracts from 236,360 contracts yesterday. The physical CPO price for August South fell RM20 to RM4,370 per tonne. -- BERNAMA

USS Nimitz carrier group to join Vinson in Middle East
The Nimitz strike group could reach the Middle East later this week, an observer said. The aircraft carrier (picture in 2024) was commissioned in 1975 and is one of the U.S. Navy's older class of carriers. File Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Samuel Osborn Mass/U.S. Navy June 16 (UPI) -- The Nimitz aircraft carrier group was rerouted from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East, joining the USS Carl Vinson. The move comes amid airstrikes between Israel and Iran. Also, the Defense Department is moving aircraft to the European and Central Command theaters if needed to support U.S. bases in the region, the Navy Times reported. And other ships, including Navy destroyers, are also headed to the region, a U.S. official told NBC News. Those ships, which are now based in U.S. European Command, include ballistic missile defense, or BMD, capabilities. Some destroyers are now stationed off Israel's coast in the Mediterranean. "Over the weekend, I directed the deployment of additional capabilities to the United States Central Command Area of Responsibility, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted Monday on X. "Protecting U.S. forces is our top priority and these deployments are intended to enhance our defensive posture in the region." The Nimitz was scheduled to go to the Middle East but officials canceled a stop in Vietnam, NBC News reported. The George Washington carrier group is operating in the Philippine Sea. The Nimitz strike group could reach the Middle East later this week, an official told Politico. The exact location hasn't been disclosed. The carrier was sailing in the South China Sea and has made its way through the Strait of Malacca, which connects the Andaman Sea and the South China Sea and is about 1,200 miles from Iran. The Vinson has sailed in the Arabian Sea, and it has partnered with the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group to hit Houthi targets in Yemen, as well. Its home port is San Diego. President Donald Trump hasn't said whether the United States will join Israel against Iran. "We're not involved in it," Trump said during an interview with ABC News. "It's possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved." Israel's aircraft have mainly been targeting nuclear facilities, including the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant built into a mountain and buried deep underground. The Nimitz carrier group has about 5,000 sailors and Marines, including aircraft crews. Assigned destroyers are Wilbur, Gridle, Meyer and Higbee The aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1975 and the home port is in Bremerton, Wash. All but three of the 11 active U.S. aircraft carriers are in homeports now. The Vinson and Nimitz are among the 10 in an older carrier class. The USS Gerald R. Ford carrier is only one commissioned in the new class.
