There was a time when owning a roadster in India meant looking at a very limited—and very expensive—set of options. But the game is changing. The launch of the MG Cyberster marks a bold new era for open-top motoring in the country. As an all-electric two-seater sports car, the Cyberster shakes up the sub- ₹1 crore segment that has so far been dominated by the likes of the BMW Z4 , a long-standing favourite among petrol-powered roadsters. Since both cars are now competing for the attention of performance enthusiasts as well as fashion-aware consumers, it's high time to find out how these two vastly different vehicles fare against each other. MG Cyberster vs BMW Z4: Price The BMW Z4 M40i is currently priced at ₹92.9 lakh (ex-showroom), which places it nicely in the higher rungs of luxury sports convertibles. It is a price reflective of its premium brand, performance heritage, and the very rich feature list it comes with. But MG has thrown a twist by offering the Cyberster. India gets the highest-spec AWD version of this electric roadster which starts at ₹75 lakh. That beats the Z4 by a considerable margin, given the performance edge it has. It's 4,535 mm long and 1,913 mm wide, which gives it an even more planted and aggressive stance than the 4,324 mm long and 1,864 mm wide BMW Z4. The design language of the Cyberster is futuristic and bold and takes cues from concept cars and supercars both. Its scissor-style doors, LED lighting, and aggressive body creases provide it with visual drama that is not usually found at this price level. The rear is dominated by an arrow-shaped LED light design for the tail lights, and the huge 20-inch wheels and active aerodynamics seal its appearance as a car that's definitely designed to cut through. By comparison, the BMW Z4 goes for traditional roadster proportions, with a long bonnet, short rear overhang, and generous width. The soft-top roof folds away conveniently within ten seconds, and the trademark kidney grille is accompanied by slim adaptive LED headlamps. The Z4 has a sense of maturity and sophistication and is best suited to those who value understated glamour over theatrics of appearance. Though both are convertibles, they are worlds apart personality-wise—one designed for the computer generation, the other set in automotive tradition. MG Cyberster vs BMW Z4: Features Get inside the MG Cyberster and you're met with an ultra-sleek cockpit that is more spaceship than motor car. The dashboard is dominated by a triple-screen design, comprising a big central infotainment screen, and two curved screens set either side of it at an angle to the driver. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen, with BMW's iDrive 7.0 overlay, includes wireless phone connectivity and harmoniously integrates with the Harman Kardon surround sound system. Additions such as a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, gesture controls, head-up display, and electrically adjustable sport seats with memory function make it a feature-packed vehicle. Although it cannot compare to the Cyberster in terms of screen space or its futuristic looks, the Z4 compensates by offering a more user-friendly and polished interface. MG Cyberster vs BMW Z4: Specifications Performance is among the biggest areas of conflict in this comparison, and the MG Cyberster makes an ambitious statement from the word go. The model that will come to India is likely to be the top-of-the-line AWD dual-motor trim that churns out a whopping 510 horsepower and 725 Nm of torque. This allows for a 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. It's supported by a 77 kWh battery pack that provides an estimated range of about 580 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle, and this would equivalent to about 450-480 km in actual Indian conditions. The Cyberster also supports DC fast charging, allowing for 10-80 per cent charging in under 40 minutes, and comes with V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality that allows users to power external appliances. The BMW Z4 M40i, in comparison, is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This engine, part of BMW's revered B58 family, is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and sends power to the rear wheels. The Z4 can complete a 0-100 km/h sprint in around 4.5 seconds. It won't be as fast as the Cyberster, perhaps, but it's a visceral and engaging drive with its rear-wheel-drive configuration, virtual weight distribution, and natural engine note—a package that resonates deeply with purists. MG Cyberster electric roadster debuts in India at ₹72.49 lakh for pre-bookers: Features, powertrain and more
MG Motor has officially launched the Cyberster, its electric convertible roadster, in the Indian market. The vehicle is priced at ₹ 72.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for customers who had placed pre-reservations. For others, the price stands at ₹ 74.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Cyberster is the second model to be retailed through MG's premium 'MG Select' dealerships. The model made its Indian debut earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, following its international unveil. Brought to India as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit, the Cyberster enters a niche segment with no direct rival, though it may be considered alongside high-performance models such as the Tesla Model Y, BMW Z4, Porsche 718 Boxster, Kia EV6, Mini Cooper SE, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Cyberster features a low-slung, two-door convertible body with electric scissor doors. It is based on a dedicated electric vehicle platform and has a wheelbase of 2,690 mm. The aerodynamic design offers a drag coefficient of 0.269 Cd. The model rides on 20-inch staggered alloy wheels, with a sloping rear profile and smooth shoulder lines that give it a streamlined silhouette. The vehicle will be offered in four colour combinations: Nuclear Yellow with a black roof, Flare Red with a black roof, Andes Grey with a red roof, and Modern Beige with a red roof. Powering the Indian-spec Cyberster is a dual-motor setup paired with a 77 kWh battery pack mounted between the axles. This configuration delivers 510 PS and 725 Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds. MG claims a range of up to 510 km on a full charge. International markets also receive a rear-wheel-drive version with a 64 kWh battery and a single motor generating 295 bhp. That version, despite having less power, is said to offer a slightly higher range of 519 km. Inside, the Cyberster is equipped with two 7-inch digital displays and a 10.25-inch central infotainment screen. The cabin materials include a mix of suede and vegan leather. Other features include dual-zone climate control, a BOSE audio system, an MP 2.5 air filter, and performance-style seats. The steering wheel is flat-bottomed and includes integrated audio and display controls, while paddle shifters enable adjustment of regenerative braking. A rotary selector is dedicated to launch control. Chassis development has been led by former Formula 1 engineer Marco Fainello. The braking system uses Brembo callipers, bringing the car to a stop from 100 kmph in 33 metres. Safety features include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a Driver Monitoring System, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, and a reinforced structure designed to resist rollovers. MG states that the Side Stability Factor (SSF) is rated at 1.83.

Re-appeal for witnesses following crash in Pontypool
Police have relaunched their appeal for witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage to help with their enquiries following a road traffic collision in Merchants Hill, Pontypool on Tuesday 8 July. They received a report of a collision in Merchants Hill, Pontypool at around 7.45pm on Tuesday 8 July. Officers attended, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. The collision involved a push bike and a car - believed to be a silver BMW Z4 with a black convertible roof – which reportedly left the scene following the collision. The cyclist, a nine-year-old boy, was taken to hospital for treatment. Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone in area with CCTV or dashcam footage, between 5pm and 8pm to contact Gwent Police. Anyone with information is asked to contact the force via 101, direct message or on their website, quoting log reference 2500217393. Next-generation Toyota Supra could spawn Lexus and Mazda coupes
The current BMW Z4 -based Supra is nearing the end of its run, but Toyota is already planning a successor, and it could have a Lexus sibling. According to Best Car, Toyota is preparing a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. This mill in naturally aspirated form will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission for the third-generation GR86, which is expected to debut in 2026. Following on from this, possibly in 2027, will be sixth-generation Supra, which will have a hybrid drivetrain with a turbocharged version of the 2.0-litre engine. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via either an eight- or 10-speed automatic transmission with a built-in electric motor. Like the current Supra, the new model will be strictly a two-seat affair. The related Lexus coupe will, however, have 2+2 seating for a dash of extra practicality, and to provide an extra point of difference. The Lexus might also be offered as a convertible. With production of the RC set to conclude in November, and the aging LC believed to have no direct successor, this new Lexus coupe is being referred to internally as 'LC+RC Integrated Sports'. It's unclear what the new coupe will be christened, but Lexus may revive the SC nameplate or go with something new. If it does decide to resurrect the SC name, it would follow in the footsteps of the original SC (above), which was based on the contemporary 'A80' Supra (below). The two cars even shared their base engines: a 3.0-litre naturally-aspirated straight six. They did however diverge for high power variants, with the Supra featuring a twin-turbo six, and the SC borrowing the 4.0-litre V8 from the LS sedan. Toyota is investigating whether it can shoehorn Mazda's straight-six engine into the new Supra's rear-wheel drive platform. If it can cram the six-pot from the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 SUVs into the engine bay, the Japanese magazine believes there's a chance of a Mazda-badged variant.
