Cabinet expansion: CM, PCC chief to visit Delhi on June 4

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud are likely to visit Delhi on June 4, to discuss Cabinet expansion and PCC executive with the party high command. With a few Ministers not being included in the newly appointed PCC's Political Affairs Committee (PAC), there is a buzz in the political circles that the new Cabinet will have at least two to three Ministers replaced with new ones. This has added to further uncertainty even as different caste leaders competing for the Cabinet berth. Presently, the cabinet has four from Reddy community, two each from BC and SCs, one each from Brahmin, Kamma, Velama and ST, totalling 12, including Chief Minister. According to party sources, as the issue gets delayed, more and more legislators stake claim. With the case of Madiga MLAs being the latest instance who are now making their efforts to meet the AICC top brass, even BC legislators demand for their rightful share. The MLAs representing SC community have in recent months emphasised that Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha does not belong to Madiga community, but sub-caste (Mochi), trying to bury the argument that they have a representative in the Cabinet. Chief Minister and PCC president B Mahesh Goud during their last visit to the national capital were asked to discuss the matter in Delhi to finalise the names on May 30. But this has been reportedly postponed to June 4. On May 26, in an attempt to reduce the speculation, Mahesh Goud who briefed the media in Delhi clarified that this time the AICC has reached a conclusion and the Cabinet expansion proposal has been approved by Rahul Gandhi.

Kavitha, Raja Singh comments prove BRS, BJP secret partners: TPCC chief

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said the allegations of BRS MLC K Kavitha and later by BJP senior MLA T Raja Singh on BJP-BRS merger efforts vindicated the Congress' stand that BRS and BJP are secret partners, and the pink party helped the BJP in the Lok Sabha and MLC elections. Mahesh Goud also demanded that Union minister G Kishan Reddy reply to allegations made by Raja Singh that some leaders in the saffron party were ready to support BRS-BJP merger in return for a "big package". Alleging that former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has revived ties with former BRS miniter Eatala Rajender, now a BJP MP, in the backdrop of notices in the Kaleshwaram irrigation probe, the TPCC chief said: "It is learnt that BRS MLA and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao met Rajender at a farmhouse, following which KCR spoke to Eatala over phone." He accused Eatala of working for the BRS while being in BJP and asked him to make his stand clear if that was not the case. The TPCC president said that even if the BRS and BJP merged, there would be no impact on the Congress. "The BRS already scored a zero in Lok Sabha elections and the BJP tally of 8 MPs will remain the same even if there was a merger. The Congress is enjoying the confidence of the people due to its welfare schemes," he said.

Stalemate over cabinet expansion, new TPCC team continues

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy, along with Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, met AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday. They discussed candidates to be finalised for five of the six vacant cabinet berths, the new TPCC team — which includes four working presidents and a large team of vice-presidents and general secretaries, among other crucial issues. However, the discussions remained inconclusive regarding the finalisation of candidates for the cabinet and the new TPCC team. There is a possibility that Revanth Reddy may extend his stay in the national capital by another day to meet KC Venugopal again. If he does stay back, he is also expected to meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, depending on their availability, either on Monday or Tuesday. Mahesh Goud will remain in Delhi. He is also expected to attend the Telangana Congress BC leaders' meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Monday, focusing on the caste census and the 42 per cent BC reservation Bill passed by the state assembly. However, there is no confirmation on whether the chief minister will also attend this session with Rahul Gandhi. The AICC has invited state ministers, Congress MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and corporation chairpersons from the Backward Classes communities for a meeting in Delhi on May 26 to discuss the caste census conducted by the Telangana govt. Sources in the AICC mentioned that it was an hour-long meeting where Revanth also discussed the strategy to be adopted on political platforms in connection with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) reportedly naming him in the National Herald-Young India money laundering case, in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been named as A-1 and A-2. "The discussions mainly focused on the new TPCC team and social and district equations to be followed. Though there was a discussion on cabinet expansion too, it mainly centred around whether to take up the crucial exercise — pending for over one-and-a-half years — before the panchayat elections or after that. The Congress govt in Telangana wants to go for the rural local body polls when the monsoon is in full swing and after releasing Rythu Bharosa financial assistance to all the eligible farmers, and this could be in June or July," said an AICC leader. The AICC leadership has also been delaying the finalisation of names for TPCC's new team, pending for eight months since B Mahesh Kumar Goud took over the reins of the state unit of the party from chief minister Revanth Reddy in Sept 2024.

Appointment of key TPCC committees reaches final stage

HYDERABAD: THE appointment of key committees within the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has entered its final stage, with TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud currently camping in Delhi to expedite the process. The internal restructuring of the TPCC, which has been pending for several weeks, appears poised for resolution, despite broader political dynamics and logistical disruptions that have hamstrung the process. Sources confirm that the TPCC had submitted its proposals for committee appointments some time ago, but the recent escalation in India-Pakistan tensions led to a temporary halt in the process. High-level visits planned by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to Delhi were abruptly cancelled last week due to security-related restrictions and temporary closure of airports. Despite these setbacks, the Congress leadership is expected to soon announce new TPCC panels, including the Political Affairs, Samvidhan Bachao and Delimitation committees. The Political Affairs Committee, in particular, is likely to feature senior leaders who will advise on contemporary political strategies and developments. Speaking to TNIE, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud confirmed that the committee proposals have been submitted and that an announcement is anticipated shortly. He is scheduled to meet All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal on Wednesday, in what could be a decisive step toward finalisation. Lobbying intensifies Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes lobbying appears to be intensifying. On Tuesday, several ministers reportedly met at a senior leader's residence to push for the inclusion of their preferred candidates in key organisational roles, including working presidents, general secretaries and secretaries. Insiders suggest that nominations have been forwarded from SC, ST, Muslim and Reddy communities for the role of working presidents, while Backward Classes (BCs) are currently being considered for elevation within the state Cabinet rather than within the TPCC structure. This balancing act reflects the Congress' effort to maintain caste and community representation while also navigating internal political ambitions. Whether the final list will reflect a comprehensive restructuring or be released in a phased manner remains uncertain.

Cong to allocate districts to PCC observers today

Hyderabad: The Congress party will be formally allocating each district to a State observer who is already identified. Out of the 33 districts, training for close to 20 of these observers will begin from Wednesday. Aimed at strengthening the party from grassroots, the campaign is part of the 'Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan'. According to party sources, the meeting being attended by PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC Telangana incharge Meenakshi Natarajan will give direction to the observers about their responsibilities in their designated districts. In wake of the impending local body polls, the districts which are being prioritised will be those where there is dire need of strengthening of cadre and where the party stands vulnerable to rivals. 'I have been invited to attend as State observer for the training session tomorrow at Indira Bhavan. They are yet to allocate districts to any of the observers and I believe the initially list of observers may contain around 20 names, while the remaining may be allocated later. The priority I believe will be given to districts where it stands weak,' said one of the observers. The decision to appoint observers was taken on April 17. Based on the reports of these observers the party will appoint the presidents at different levels including district and also mandal. This is on the lines of Gujarat and as part of the 'Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan'. PAC meeting in presence of AICC general secretary Randeep Surjewala The PCC will also be holding a PAC (Political Affairs Committee) meeting on Wednesday in presence of AICC general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala. This meeting will be attended by DCC presidents, members of PAC, Ministers besides AICC State incharge and PCC president. The PAC meeting will primary focus to assuage the differences within the party leadership, apart from chalking out strategies for winning the upcoming polls including GHMC and local body polls.
