EWA launches solar energy system at Khalifa City water distribution station

Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), announced the completion of a solar energy system installation at the Khalifa City water distribution station, making it fully powered by renewable energy with the capacity to export surplus electricity to the national grid. During an inspection visit to the station, the EWA President highlighted that the project is part of a comprehensive plan to install solar energy systems across various facilities. He noted that Khalifa City station is the eleventh EWA facility to be equipped with solar energy systems, reflecting the authority's commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. Kamal bin Ahmed emphasised EWA's ongoing expansion in sustainable energy solutions to support clean energy production, promote renewable energy use, and contribute to Bahrain's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He highlighted that these initiatives aim to enhance reliance on clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and build a more sustainable future for the Kingdom of Bahrain. These efforts align with Bahrain's SDGs to diversify energy sources, improve efficiency, encourage investment in renewable energy, and increase the share of renewables in the national energy mix, in line with international commitments and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. The project includes the installation of 2,032 solar panels on the station's underground reservoir rooftops, with a maximum production capacity of 1,400 kilowatts of clean electricity, ensuring full operation on renewable energy. The system is equipped with a self-cleaning mechanism for the solar panels and is integrated with monitoring and control devices. This project marks a significant step towards environmental and economic sustainability in Bahrain, reinforcing EWA's commitment to adopting global best practices in renewable energy and strengthening the Kingdom's position as a regional leader in clean energy. Health Ministry launches enhanced organ donation registration system

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Royal Medical Services (RMS) and the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), has launched an enhanced electronic registration system for organ donation on Bahrain's national portal, The system allows citizens and residents to register as organ donors during their lifetime or pledge to donate after death. Users can also check their application status and cancel their registration electronically. Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, highlighted the initiative's role in promoting community giving and reinforcing humanitarian values. She noted that the updated registration system will streamline donor registration, provide an updated and reliable donor list, and enable faster medical response for patients in need. The minister underscored Bahrain's commitment to providing sustainable healthcare services under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The minister also expressed gratitude to all supporting entities, particularly RMS, for their contributions to the national organ donation and transplantation programme. Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of iGA, emphasised that enhancing organ donation services through the national portal aligns with the government's digital transformation strategy, particularly in healthcare services. He also noted that the initiative supports Bahrain's national plan (Bahrainouna), which is overseen by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, and aims to strengthen social cohesion and encourage community participation. The Health Ministry outlined the registration requirements, which include a valid personal ID, a minimum age of 21 years, and full legal capacity. The donor's decision cannot be made on their behalf by family members. To register, users must log in via the eKey system, enter their details, and select the type of donation, including partial liver, kidney, bone marrow, heart, lungs, intestines, pancreatic tissue, or corneas. They can also track their application status, which may be pending, approved, rejected, cancelled, or awaiting consent approval based on their health condition. The Ministry of Health, RMS, and iGA urged the public to register as donors via contributing to life-saving efforts and enhancing healthcare in Bahrain. For more information, individuals can contact the Government Services Call Centre at 80008001. BNA(R)
