Springfield City Council approves funding deal to raise Jefferson Ave. Footbridge
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Springfield City Council has accepted a $2 million funding agreement with the BNSF Railway Company to raise the height of the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge.
As part of the agreement, BNSF will contribute funds towards raising the footbridge by around three to four feet. The plan was made so that BSNF can to replace rails and conduct track maintenance under the bridge while protecting the historic footbridge.
Construction to raise the bridge will take place as part of the upcoming Jefferson Avenue Footbridge Rehabilitation Project, says the City of Springfield. The project is planned to begin this spring and is currently projected to be completed in early 2026.
