Representative image YAMUNANAGAR: The Yamunanagar district police's efforts and robust legal advocacy have led to the conviction of a 59-year-old man, Om Chandra alias Chandgi Ram of Sadhaura, for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old minor girl. The additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Ranjana Aggarwal, sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 in a case registered under Sections 65 (2) (punishment for rape) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act at Sadhaura Police Station. The case dates back to August 29, 2024, when a woman from a village under the Sadhaura police station area reported an incident of sexual assault with her minor daughter. The woman alleged that her 12-year-old daughter had gone to dispose of garbage outside their home but did not return for some time. After a frantic search, the mother heard her daughter's screams near a cattle shed owned by the convict, located close to the village's sports stadium. Upon reaching the shed, she found the gate locked from the inside. When she raised an alarm, Om Chandra opened the gate and fled. Following the complaint, a case was promptly registered under relevant sections of the BNS and Pocso Act. The investigation, led by women's assistant sub-inspector Sharmila, was thorough and meticulous, incorporating scientific evidence and strong legal groundwork. Under the guidance of district SP Kamaldeep Goyal, the police's Operation Conviction Monitoring Cell ensured rigorous follow-up and advocacy in court. The case was presented before the court of ADSJ Ranjana Aggarwal, where the prosecution's compelling arguments and evidence led to the conviction of Om Chandra. On July 24, 2025, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing the accused to 20 years in prison and a Rs 50,000 fine. The Yamunanagar police spokesperson hailed the verdict as a testament to the district police's commitment to justice, particularly in protecting vulnerable children. 'This conviction reflects our dedication to ensuring that perpetrators of heinous crimes face the full force of the law,' the spokesperson stated.

Kota: Under the pretext of getting rid of debt and the ill influence of spirits, a 41-year-old tantrik in Jhalawar abducted a minor girl from her home and raped her for 3-4 days. Police rescued the minor girl from Kekari in Ajmer district on June 26 and arrested the accused Monday. Jhalawar SP Richa Tomer identified the accused as Prahald Mehar, 41, a resident of Raipur police station area in the district. In a report to the police station on Monday last week, the girl's father had stated that Mehar worked as an occultist in the area. He assured the family of getting rid of their debt and the ill influence of spirits over their minor daughter through tantric rituals, the SP said. Mehar called the family to his ashram in Raipur on the night of June 22, when he pretended to perform tantric rituals until late at night. The family found the tantrik and their minor girl missing the next morning. A police team led by sub-inspector Bannalal launched a search operation that eventually concluded on Thursday last week when the minor girl was rescued from Kekari in Ajmer district, the SP said. Upon revelation of repeated rape by the tantrik, a medical board conducted a medical examination of the survivor, who was later handed over to family members, the SP added. Police incorporated sections of rape under BNS and Pocso Act in their case of abduction and produced the tantrik before court on Tuesday. Berhampur: Police on Tuesday arrested a 47-year-old owner of a private clinic for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Ganjam district on Monday. Two women, aged 21 and 50, were also arrested for allegedly assisting the accused in the heinous crime. Police said the family members of the teen left her with the accused after he assured them he would help her study BSc (Nursing). He also assured to provide her free accommodation, police said. On Monday, he took the girl to a room in an apartment. One of the female accomplices offered water to the girl. After drinking water, she felt weak but was able to talk. The accused took her to the bedroom and allegedly raped her, police said. He said prima facie evidence suggests the accused was a fake homeopathic doctor who ran a clinic. Investigation is on to verify the qualifications of the accused.

1 2 3 Jabalpur: A four-year-old girl who was going to a wedding in her neighbourhood was abducted and raped in Jabalpur on Sunday night. She was injured in the sexual assault and is in hospital. Police have detained a youngster for questioning but are yet to make any arrest. Majhgawan police station in charge Dhannu Singh said that the wedding took place in a village on April 26. The survivor's family was among those invited to the party. The child's mother got her dressed up and told her to wait for the others in the family to get ready. The girl went to her aunt's house on an upper floor of the same building and disappeared after coming downstairs. The family went off to the wedding, believing she was there and were alarmed to realise she was missing. The wedding turned into a search party. Everyone began looking for her. She was found cowering near the lighting equipment hired for the baraat. When she was taken home, her mother discovered she was bleeding from her private parts. They immediately went to police. The child was admitted to a hospital in Jabalpur, where she is stable, said officials. Police have registered a case under BNS and Pocso Act . The informant network has been activated and a youth is being questioned. Police said they will conduct DNA tests on all suspects.
