Hyderabad: As part of the university's Equal Opportunity Plan, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Open University has announced that free degree courses will be provided to all transgender people in Telangana, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani on Sunday. He described the initiative as a progressive step forward in inclusive education, stating that BRAOU would be the first university to provide such an opportunity for transgenders. Under this innovative scheme, beginning in the academic year 2025-26, any transgender person with a 10+2 (Intermediate or equivalent) qualification can enrol in any degree course offered by the university. A nominal registration fee of Rs 500 would be the only charge, as the university has decided to waive all tuition fees. In addition to the tuition fee waiver, transgender students will be provided with free course materials, and no fees will be charged for attending classes or continuing their studies through other media. He also stated that study tools would be available to them free of cost. He said that they can gain admission to any study centre across Telangana and attend classes there. Prof. Chakrapani reminded the audience that the university is moving forward with the aim of providing equal opportunities to all sections of society. He highlighted that the university is already fulfilling its social responsibility by providing free education to prisoners and military personnel. He also revealed that a programme has already been announced to provide free higher education to children from backward tribal communities in the state, such as Gond, Koya, and Chenchu, starting from this academic year.

Hyderabad: Dr BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) has announced admissions to its PhD programmes for the academic year 2024–25 in ten disciplines: Commerce, English, Telugu, Economics, History, Public Administration, Sociology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics A BRAOU statement said on Saturday that admissions will be based on a computer-based entrance test followed by an interview. Candidates who have qualified in UGC/CSIR-JRF/NET/SLET/SET or hold an are exempted from the test but must attend the interview. Online registration begins on August 6, and ends on August 30. Applications with a late fee will be accepted until September 4, 2025. The entrance test will be conducted only in Hyderabad, and the date will be announced on the university website. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), in association with the Retailers Association Skill Council of India (RASCI), organised a Job Mela on campus to promote its Stipend-Based Apprenticeship Program (SAP). The event organised on Thursday attracted students from across Telangana and highlighted new pathways for earning while learning. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice Chancellor of BRAOU, addressed the gathering as the chief guest, emphasising the university's mission to empower students with scholarship-based education. He highlighted that students enrolled in the SAP have the opportunity to earn stipends ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 24,000 per month while continuing their academic journey. 'Our goal is to ensure that every student not only receives an education but also becomes employable or entrepreneurial,' Prof. Chakrapani said. He announced future collaborations with reputed organisations to host additional job fairs and skill-oriented initiatives. He also reaffirmed the university's dedication to preparing students for managerial roles through a practice-intensive, stipend-linked degree framework. The Vice Chancellor commended the Telangana government's initiative to boost women's entrepreneurship in both urban and rural partnership with WE-Hub is a strategic step in that direction, aiming to foster innovation and leadership among women. He also announced the rollout of short-term vocational courses for tribal and rural learners via Swami Ramananda Tirtha Rural Institute. Joining virtually from Mumbai, Sameer Narsapur, Head of Standards & Quality Assurance at RASCI, emphasised the importance of integrating education with professional experience. Chanda Vadde, General Manager of Industry and Academia (RASCI South), spoke about RASCI's Four-I's model—Individual, Institution, Industry, and India—which forms the foundation of the curriculum design. 'The SAP program offers more than a certificate—it creates financially independent and professionally competent individuals,' she added, assuring students of enhanced employment prospects upon completion.

State-led nodal organisation for promoting women's entrepreneurship, WE Hub, on Friday, entered into an MoU with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) to implement its WE-Enable skilling programme for university students across Telangana. Under the partnership, the programme will be offered to 2,000 students over the next year, enabling them to explore career pathways, build industry-relevant skills and gain real-world exposure through live projects, internships, and innovation-based learning. The six-month programme operates through three structured phases — career discovery, learning and immersion — aimed at developing confident and industry-ready talent, WE Hub said in a release. 'Together, we aim to enable young women to become confident problem-solvers, innovators and leaders,' CEO Sita Pallacholla said. Urban initiatives like WE-Enable are designed to nurture a skilled, future-ready workforce alongside strong collaboration with MEPMA, SERP, and District Collectors for rural programmes, she said. BRAOU Vice-Chancellor Ganta Chakrapani said that the collaboration with WE Hub aligns with the university's vision to enhance industry-readiness among students and promote inclusive skilling opportunities.

Hyderabad: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Retail Sector Skill Council of India (RASCI), a Mumbai-based not-for-profit organization, for the 'Stipend Based Apprenticeship Program (SAP)' at its campus on Monday. The MoU was signed by Dr. L. Vijaya Krishna Reddy, Registrar of BRAOU, and James Raphael, Executive Director of RASCI, along with other officials, in the presence of Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani stated that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University is the first university to sign an MoU with the Retail Sector Skill Council of India. He emphasized that this MoU will significantly enhance students' skills alongside their academic studies. BRAOU is committed to providing scholarship-based education that promotes skill development among its students. He encouraged students at the open university to take full advantage of this stipend-based education initiative. To inform students about this program, university officials will visit every study center in Telangana. Relevant details will be updated on the university's website, and a joint admission notification will be issued. Prof. Chakrapani mentioned that the university aims to provide employment opportunities to every student and support their entrepreneurial ambitions. Under this program, students can earn a minimum stipend of Rs 7,000 per month, potentially reaching Rs 24,000 or more. Additionally, graduates from this university are also eligible to apply. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 28. He also indicated that more such MoUs with prestigious institutions will be signed in the future to benefit students. James Raphael, Executive Director of RASCI, highlighted that their organization aims to benefit each student individually. They will collaborate with educational institutions to prepare students for the workforce. The program is designed around the concept of Individual, Institution, Industry, and India (Four-I's), which will be highly beneficial for the students of BRAOU. The curriculum will integrate academic theory with professional experience, providing a holistic educational journey. Raphael assured that every student will gain financial independence and empowerment through this program.
