Gorakhpur has access to best of healthcare, med expense coverage: Yogi
1 2 Gorakhpur: High-end super specialty healthcare is accessible in Gorakhpur and Ayushman Bharat and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana are ensuring coverage of medical expenses up to Rs 5 lakh. This was stated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who inaugurated a state-of-the-art private hospital on Medical College road in the city, on Sunday. He assured citizens that if additional assistance was needed, the CM Relief Fund and contributions from legislators' funds would be extended. "Last year, Rs 1,100 crore was provided under the CM Relief Fund for medical treatment," said Yogi. He also launched the hospital's patient-care mobile app 'Regency MyCare' and inspected the newly inaugurated facilities. Yogi pointed out that just a decade ago, eastern UP's healthcare system was in a "dismal" state, BRD Medical College being the lone major hospital, struggling to provide treatment to the needy. "Today, BRD has been upgraded, AIIMS Gorakhpur is functional, and several new medical colleges have come up in districts like Basti, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Jaunpur, and others. He lauded the Regency Hospital's contribution in Kanpur and praised local partner Tanmay Modi for bringing the chain to Gorakhpur. Stressing "healthy competition" in healthcare sector, Yogi cited the model of Guru Gorakhnath Hospital, which had pioneered ICU and dialysis services in the region over two decades ago. He said new institutions must strive to deliver upgraded models of care. MP Ravi Kishan said that during SP govt in state, people were left struggling with encephalitis and BRD medical college was in a bad state but now there was AIIMS and several other hospitals in the district and around 7-8 crore population of nearby districts, Bihar and Nepal depended on Gorakhpur for healthcare. The hospital group's chairman and MD Dr Atul Kapoor said the facility would also create employment for about 900 locals.
