Sabrina Carpenter's racy dance at Brits sparks hundreds of Ofcom complaints
The Brit Awards sparked more than 800 Ofcom complaints over Sabrina Carpenter's raunchy opening dance routine and Charli XCX's sheer outfit. Viewers made 825 complaints about the star-studded awards ceremony held at the O2 Arena, in London, after watching the broadcast on Saturday, 1 March on ITV1. The majority of complaints were made in relation to Carpenter's dance routine and Charli XCX's choice of attire at the occasion. An Ofcom spokesperson told Yahoo UK: "We are assessing the complaints against our rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate." Charli XCX had no comment when approached by Yahoo UK. Yahoo UK has reached out to Sabrina Carpenter's representatives for further comment. Fans on social media warned there would be "hundreds of complaints" after Carpenter took to the stage to perform a medley of Espresso and Bed Chem. Among the comments, one person said: "Every parent complaining to Ofcom after watching that Sabrina Carpenter performance with their kids #BRITs2025." Other viewers spoke out in her defence, including one person who said: "Sabrina already getting ofcom complaints for her brits performance is so funny why does this country hate having fun." The Brit Awards ceremony started at the family-friendly, pre-watershed time of 8.15pm with Carpenter opening the show. Before the amount of complaints were published, the cheeky singer shrugged off the controversy around her performance. She laughed it off writing on Instagram to her 45.1 million followers: "Brits! I now know what post-watershed is." Carpenter swapped her glamorous pink dress she wore on the red carpet for scarlet lingerie on stage. As well as underwear, the Espresso hitmaker accessorised her look with a waspie belt, fishnet tights and heels. Another of her stage outfits was a nod to celebrating the United Kingdom with a red sequinned blazer dress, and her routine saw her walk down the aisle lit up with the Union flag. However, one controversial moment from the dance routine saw Carpenter shimmy down to her backing dancer's waist with her microphone in her hand. Dressed as a royal guard, the dancer directly winked to the camera. Carpenter received the global success award on the evening. She said of receiving her award: "The Brits have given me this award, and this feels like such an insane honour in a very primarily tea-drinking country... You really understood my dry sense of humour because your sense of humour is so, so dry. So I love y'all more than you even understand." Charli XCX was among the biggest winners at the Brit Awards as she took home a total of five awards, including: best song, best album and best artist. Yet like Carpenter, the songwriter also drew controversy at the awards ceremony. The Brat singer — real name Charlotte Aitchison — sparked Ofcom complaints when she graced the stage in her daring outfit. Her black dress featured a sheer skirt which put her underwear on display. In November, she spoke about the return of "messy fashion". She told Harper's Bazaar of her looks: "I feel like we're in this world where there's so much pressure to uphold the standard of perfection, and it's just not realistic... I think when you see someone kind of embracing their flaws and being messy, you recognise a bit of yourself in that. You feel like it's okay to be messy yourself." 'Broke my heart all over again' - Fans in tears as Brit Awards honour Liam Payne
Former One Direction member Liam Payne, who died in October at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina was remembered at the Brit Awards last night (March 1). The 'beautiful' tribute that celebrated his legacy left fans in tears, with some saying it 'broke my heart all over again'. The Wolverhampton singer rose to international fame alongside band members Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, after they met on The X Factor. Awards host Jack Whitehall introduced a video honouring the singer, saying: 'It is now time to take a moment to remember a very special person who meant so much to many of the people in this room, and to millions of you around the world. Their hit Little Things played in the background while a clip showed Payne recording a version of the song. The montage also included photographs with his son Bear and meeting Queen Elizabeth II. In the video Payne said: 'We thought something might happen, but never anything like this. 'I'm always trying to remind myself of where I've come from, where I've managed to get to in my life. Fans have shown support for Paloma Faith after she made an unscripted remark on the Brit awards stage. The British singer called out the US President Donald Trump and his American voters before she presented the Brit award for best dance act to Charli XCX. As the 43-year-old praised the voters of the Brit awards, she 'threw shade' at American voters for making the 'wrong' choice – appearing to slam President Donald Trump in front of the live audience at the O2 in London. English singer Charli XCX was up for the most BRIT awards, being nominated for five different awards, including the highly coveted British Album of the Year award for her hit album Brat. Charli XCX has won Songwriter of the Year, following the album's massive success since its release in June 2024. The awards are being broadcast live from The O2 Arena in London, featuring performances from Sabrina Carpenter, Sam Fender, Jade, The Last Dinner Party, Myles Smith, Teddy Swims and Lola Young. On February 23, it was revealed via Shaboozey's Instagram Story that, due to circumstances beyond his control, he will no longer be able to perform at the awards. The Brits take place just one day before the iconic Academy Awards, celebrating the achievements in film from the past year.

Brits viewers say Ofcom 'will be getting a lot' just minutes into show after Sabrina Carpenter opens awards
American pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter opened this year's Brit Awards with a very British, and very sexy performance of some of her biggest hits. Sabrina took to the stage in a sexier version of a King's Guard outfit to perform a medley of Espresso and Bed Chem. The stage was lit up with a Union Jack before a group of dancers dressed up The King's Guard emerged as she started singing the smash hit Espresso. For the second song, Sabrina then took to a pink heart-shaped to perform Bed Chem in lingerie. There was plenty of sexy and suggestive choreography and viewers were quick to head to social media to share their thoughts. Reacting to a moment where Sabrina disappeared off camera while one of the King's Guards winked, one fan said: "Ofcom is gonna be getting lots of complaints tonight." Sabrina Carpenter stunned - and annoyed - ITV viewers with her performance at the BRIT Awards tonight. The Espresso singer took to the stage at the annual music event at London's O2 Arena this evening to perform her biggest hits including Espresso and Bed Chem. Sabrina is picking up the Global Success Award tonight, becoming the first-ever international artist to get given the award, which has previously gone to the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran. Sabrina won the Global Success Award at the BRITs after her phenomenal international sales.
