Evans Street, Fifth Street to close for downtown renovations
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Construction related to the BUILD Project is scheduled to close Evans Street and Fifth Street in the downtown area beginning next week, as two others reopen as part of the same project. The closure is expected to be in place for approximately 3-4 months to allow for improvements including wider sidewalks, brick crosswalks, traffic signal upgrades, site furnishings, and street trees. Downtown businesses will remain open and accessible, but the block of Evans Street between Fifth Street and Fourth Street will be accessible by pedestrians only during this work. This closure will follow the reopening of Fifth Street's intersections at Greene Street and Cotanche Street, which are scheduled to take place by the end of the day Friday, March 21.
