Situation demanding resignation of CM, DyCM, and Home Minister: Karnataka BJP Chief on Bengaluru stampede

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 5 (ANI): Karnataka BJP State President BY Vijayendra on Thursday demanded an inquiry by sitting High Court judges and a minimum compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of the 11 people who died in the stampede during RCB's victory celebration. Speaking at a press conference at the BJP legislature party office in Vidhana Soudha, Vijayendra analysed the situation in the state, stating that the 'Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Home Minister should resign.' He held the state government entirely responsible for yesterday's tragedy and insisted that even the RCB owners, whether in London or Dubai, should contribute compensation. He noted that in Kerala, when a person died due to an elephant attack, Rs 25 lakh compensation was announced, even though the elephant belonged to Karnataka. Further, the Karnataka BJP Chief criticised the state government's decision to conduct an inquiry through a magistrate, questioning how ministers and the Chief Minister, who are essentially in the dock, could be investigated impartially under such an arrangement. He stated that the government is not ready to accept its failure and is more focused on publicity than public welfare. Vijayendra questioned why the state government rushed into organising such a massive celebration for RCB's win. He asked, 'Why it was approved if someone else organised it, and why was permission granted at the last minute without adequate preparation?' Earlier today, the Karnataka Police filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), among others, in the Bengaluru stampede incident that claimed the lives of 11 people. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Bengaluru, Shekar H Tekkannanavar, an FIR has been filed against RCB, DNA (event manager), Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee and others at Cubbon Park Police Station. The FIR stated criminal negligence in the stampede incident. Sections 105, 125 (1)(2), 132, 121/1, 190 R/w 3 (5) have been invoked in the FIR. (ANI)

Karnataka BJP Calls for Accountability in Stampede Tragedy

Bengaluru: BJP demands judicial inquiry, Karnataka Congress government, stampede accountability, B Y Vijayendra's statement, compensation for victims, public safety the wake of a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory parade near Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra has called for a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge, accusing the Congress-led state government of gross negligence and an obsession with public relations at the expense of public safety. Vijayendra's demand for accountability comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, with hospitals reporting a grim tally of casualties and the injured still under treatment. In a strongly worded statement on social media platform X, Vijayendra asserted, 'The stampede at Chinnaswamy wasn't an accident, it was a tragedy caused by the Congress government's sheer irresponsibility and PR obsession. I demand a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge and Rs. 50 lakh compensation for each victim's family. The CM & his cabinet must be held accountable.' The BJP leader's call for a judicial probe reflects a broader political narrative of opposition to the Congress government's handling of the event. The tragedy has ignited a fierce debate over event management and public safety protocols, especially given the scale of the gathering, which drew an estimated 2.5 lakh people to the stadium and its vicinity. The tragedy has also prompted a response from the Karnataka government, which has ordered a magisterial inquiry but stopped short of agreeing to a judicial one. This distinction is crucial, as a judicial inquiry would involve higher judicial oversight and potentially more stringent accountability measures. The state has also announced plans to formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mega events, aiming to prevent future incidents.

'What was the hurry to hold this event? Even if someone else arranged it, why did the government approve it? It could've easily been held 3 to 7 days later,' he R Ashoka, too, questioned the rush to organise the event, saying, "The government must take full responsibility for this incident.
