Among those seen enjoying exclusive access were CM Siddaramaiah's grandson Dhawan Rakesh and housing minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan's son, Zaid. Both were spotted on the grand steps of the state secretariat, sharing photo ops with RCB stars, including Virat Kohli. The photo session, according to sources, was enabled with police facilitation. Dhawan was accompanied by JD(S) MLA from Hunsur, GD Harish Gowda, who also appeared in group pictures with the cricketers. Toyota Motor Corporation revealed plans to develop a second battery electric vehicle (BEV) in partnership with local automaker Subaru Corporation, for sale in the North American and Japanese markets from 2026, according to reports. Toyota is keen to work closely with Subaru, in which it owns a 20% stake, to tap into its development and production capabilities, as it looks to catch up with other global automakers in the transition to BEVs. The bZ4X, sold in North America as the BZ, is Toyota's first BEV model to have been developed in collaboration with Subaru. It is sold by Subaru as the Solterra model. Subaru had previously developed its BRZ model, powered by a 2.4L petrol engine, in collaboration with Toyota - which went on sale in the US in 2021. Separate reports suggest that Toyota is considering producing a new entry-level pickup truck in the US, possibly based on its Thai-made Hilux truck, to be sold alongside the existing mid-size Tacoma and full-size Tundra models. Following the introduction of new import tariffs in the US, Japanese automakers have been strengthening their collaboration to increase US production. Nissan Motor recently announced a number of shared models initiatives with Mitsubishi Motors to boost its US production. Grand preparations under way for Samarpane Sankalpa Samavesha at Hospate
Hosapete (Vijayanagara): The state govt's two-year celebration, ' Samarpane Sankalpa Samavesha ', will take place at the Puneeth Rajkumar District Stadium in Hosapete on Tuesday. The district administration is making grand preparations for the event, scheduled from 10am to 2pm. The conference venue features a German tent housing three stages. The primary stage spans 200ft in width and 70ft in length, accommodating 300 dignitaries. Two smaller stages are being prepared, one for 50 former ministers and another for 50 corporation and board chairmen and party leaders. The main stage's design incorporates replicas of pillars of Hampi monuments on both sides and features a comprehensive LED panel backdrop. The layout includes designated seating for VIPs and VVIPs near the stage. A separate media section is being established with internet connectivity and live broadcast facilities. The venue will accommodate 1.5 lakh chairs for attendees from across the state, with 50,000 additional chairs in reserve. LED displays are being installed along the stadium's adjacent roads. His estimation indicates that the conference will attract over 3 lakh attendees. Regarding catering, the minister detailed arrangements for 2 lakh people, with 1.5 lakh chairs in the dining area. Food distribution will commence at 9am across 500 counters. The plan includes 50,000 emergency food packets and 5 lakh water packets. A 200-acre area near Hosapete has been allocated for parking 10,000 vehicles. "The first ' Siddaramaothsava ' was held in Davanagere. The Samarpane Sankalpa conference in Hosapete will be the second 'Siddaramaothsava'. Many dignitaries, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, will participate in the conference," said Zameer. Race on for Muslim quota berths as cabinet rejig buzz grows
Bengaluru: While several MLAs are mounting pressure on Congress brass to reshuffle the cabinet following the govt's second anniversary celebrations on May 20, Muslim legislators are actively seeking positions under the minority quota. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The party leadership is said to have informally agreed to provide opportunities to those who did not receive ministerial positions in 2023 by replacing current ministers at the govt's mid-term point. Although, the govt will reach its halfway mark in Sept, aspiring legislators want chief minister Siddaramaiah to initiate changes after next week's anniversary event in Hospet. Siddaramaiah, on Friday, had hinted at a forthcoming reshuffle by suggesting former minister B Nagendra's probable return to the cabinet. Nagendra had stepped down last June following allegations over his alleged role in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation alleged scam. Having received a clean chit from investigators, he now seeks reinstatement. Whilst both experienced and new faces are vying for cabinet positions, the spotlight is on the Muslim quota. Basavaraj Rayareddi, economic adviser to the CM, said it would be the CM's call. "He will base his decision on a performance assessment," he said. There are nine Muslim legislators and the current cabinet features two of them — BZ Zameer Khan and Rahim Khan. The high command reportedly wants both replaced. But Zameer is seen as a confidante of the CM and many feel it would be hard to remove him. This has not deterred those eyeing his seat. Since Zameer represents Bengaluru, two from the city —NA Harris and Rizwan Arshad — are learnt to have already requested Siddaramaiah to consider them. He has made his aspirations clear by arguing that Zameer's position should be considered as the quota for south Karnataka. Rahim Khan represents Bidar assembly segment, and the obvious argument is that he should be replaced by a Muslim legislator from north Karnataka. Saleem Ahmed, senior functionary and Congress chief whip in the legislative council, is also pushing for a seat along with Kaneez Fatima (Gulbarga North assembly constituency). Ahmed appears to have the edge due to his seniority. "While it is the prerogative of the CM to choose his ministers, the high command takes the final call. I missed out in 2023, but I am hopeful of getting an opportunity now," said Ahmed. Of the working presidents, Ahmed was the only one excluded ostensibly due to his council membership. Some MLCs advocate for increased upper house representation, currently limited to minister NS Boseraju. Assembly speaker UT Khader may be considered under the coastal region's Muslim quota.
