Bengaluru: Even as grief engulfed Bengaluru over the stadium stampede, outrage has erupted over images of VIP family members posing with cricketers at Vidhana Soudha on the very day of the tragedy.
Among those seen enjoying exclusive access were CM Siddaramaiah's grandson Dhawan Rakesh and housing minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan's son, Zaid. Both were spotted on the grand steps of the state secretariat, sharing photo ops with RCB stars, including Virat Kohli. The photo session, according to sources, was enabled with police facilitation. Dhawan was accompanied by JD(S) MLA from Hunsur, GD Harish Gowda, who also appeared in group pictures with the cricketers.
Photographs and videos of the moment, circulated widely on social media, have struck a raw nerve — particularly since these visuals emerged just as questions are being raised over crowd control and safety arrangements that failed to prevent the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Netizens were quick to express outrage over what they called a "VIP-only fanfest" at a govt event. They took note of Karnataka Mahila Congress president Sowmya Reddy, daughter of senior minister Ramalinga Reddy, who was seen among those present at Soudha.

"The same stairs where ministers posed for photos became the symbol of public neglect," one post read, summarising the mood online.
Adding to the political backlash, BJP leader R Ashoka posted Zaid's photos on X at the venue, calling it "a celebration of privilege, even as citizens died outside".
Sources confirmed that grandsons of other senior ministers, including those of social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa, were among the select few granted access to the team.
I warned CM against RCB parade: Aide Govindaraju
Senior Congress MLC K Govindaraju, who is the CM's political secretary and was seen prominently during felicitations to the RCB team at Vidhana Soudha Wednesday, has distanced himself from the decision to organise the mega event.
"I had advised the CM against holding a victory parade fearing it could lead to a catastrophe," Govindaraju told TOI a day after the tragedy.
"I was not happy about the govt getting involved in the celebrations since it wasn't the state or the national team which won the trophy. I'm the president of FIBA Asia and Karnataka Olympic Association. I've no interest in cricket. I haven't received any request from RCB or its owners," he said.
On speculation over his alleged role in influencing the govt to hold the event, Govindaraju said his proximity to the CM was being misread. "What has happened is unfortunate and the CM is devastated by the incident, though he wasn't part of the decision-making either," he added.

BJP activists protest in Mysuru over Bengaluru stampede

Mysuru: BJP activists protested near Ramaswamy Circle on Friday, condemning the state govt's stance on suspending the Bengaluru police commissioner. Led by Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, the activists accused the Congress govt of being responsible for the death of 11 RCB fans in the stampede, a day after RCB won its first IPL title. Chanting slogans naming CM Siddaramaiah as A1, deputy CM DK Shivakumar as A2, and home minister G Parameshwara as A3, the protesters demanded the resignation of Siddaramaiah. Srivatsa, addressing the protesters, said officials were held responsible for the Bengaluru incident and suspended, but questioned why there was no action against officials in the Muda scam in which Siddaramaiah was accused. He claimed the CM was misusing power for his benefit and convenience. The protesters accused the CM and Deputy CM of being directly responsible for the loss of 11 precious lives. They argued that the suspension of police officers was like deflecting someone's mistake onto others. City BJP chief L Nagendra, a former MLA, was also present. Bengaluru stampede an intelligence failure: JD(S)

Mysuru: Calling the Bengaluru stampede an intelligence failure, JD(S) working president S R Mahesh on Friday asked the govt to initiate action against the intelligence ADGP Hemanth Nimbalkar, home secretary, and chief secretary. He also urged the withdrawal of the suspension of honest police officers. Mahesh accused the CM of sparing the intelligence wing ADGP because his wife, Anjali Nimbalkar, is a former Congress MLA. "What was the intelligence ADGP doing? Didn't he report to the CM about the tragedy? And what was the home department secretary doing?" Mahesh claimed that after an intelligence report, why was permission given for celebrations at both places. The chief secretary is also responsible, he accused. Mahesh questioned CM Siddaramaiah if his action of suspending five police officers satisfied his conscience and said why use a powerful weapon on a sparrow by sparing those at the helm. Mahesh urged the CM to withdraw the suspension of Bengaluru commissioner B Dayanand and DCP central HT Shekar. Mahesh stated that all those on the stage were equally responsible for the incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Promoções imperdíveis de voos baratos Voos | Anúncios de Pesquisa Saiba Mais Undo "The Bengaluru stampede was an accident, but negligence is evident. During this time of grief, political mudslinging is not right. Hence, we didn't discuss the matter immediately," he said. Mahesh also questioned the need to invite family members to the govt-organised event when there was a huge gathering of fans, and he also urged the central govt to recall the governor, who too took part in the celebration at Vidhana Soudha. Bengaluru stampede: BJP demands CM, ministers' resignation

Madikeri: The BJP functionaries in Kodagu have demanded the resignation of the chief minister, DCM, and home minister over the Bengaluru stampede issue. They alleged that govt is directly responsible for the death of 11 victims in Bengaluru. "The state has the right to congratulate and celebrate the win of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). However, prior arrangements and preparations needed to be in place before victory celebration. The programme was organised in a hurry, and govt is responsible for the tragic disaster," alleged Ravi Kalappa, district BJP president. He demanded that the chief minister, deputy chief minister, and home minister resign from their posts immediately. Former MLC Sunil Subramani said, "The entire state is ashamed of the incident that unfolded in Bengaluru and claimed the lives of 11 citizens. Bengaluru is the place where the CM, DCM, and home minister are. It is a tragedy that such a disastrous incident has taken place in the same place. A hasty decision taken due to the tussle between the CM and DCM to get the credit for the programme is the reason for the tragedy." He demanded that the CM, DCM, and home minister resign, taking moral responsibility. Accusing CM Siddaramaiah of being weak, Sunil said that the Congress high command should elect a capable person for the post of CM. "DCM Shiva Kumar said that he made a mistake. However, lives were lost due to that mistake," he added. BJP general secretary Mahesh Jaini accused the state of ignoring police reports and demanded that the ministers take moral responsibility and resign from their posts.
