Bengaluru stampede: BJP demands CM, ministers' resignation
Madikeri: The BJP functionaries in Kodagu have demanded the resignation of the chief minister, DCM, and home minister over the Bengaluru stampede issue. They alleged that govt is directly responsible for the death of 11 victims in Bengaluru.
"The state has the right to congratulate and celebrate the win of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). However, prior arrangements and preparations needed to be in place before victory celebration. The programme was organised in a hurry, and govt is responsible for the tragic disaster," alleged Ravi Kalappa, district BJP president. He demanded that the chief minister, deputy chief minister, and home minister resign from their posts immediately.
Former MLC Sunil Subramani said, "The entire state is ashamed of the incident that unfolded in Bengaluru and claimed the lives of 11 citizens. Bengaluru is the place where the CM, DCM, and home minister are. It is a tragedy that such a disastrous incident has taken place in the same place. A hasty decision taken due to the tussle between the CM and DCM to get the credit for the programme is the reason for the tragedy." He demanded that the CM, DCM, and home minister resign, taking moral responsibility.
Accusing CM Siddaramaiah of being weak, Sunil said that the Congress high command should elect a capable person for the post of CM. "DCM Shiva Kumar said that he made a mistake. However, lives were lost due to that mistake," he added. BJP general secretary Mahesh Jaini accused the state of ignoring police reports and demanded that the ministers take moral responsibility and resign from their posts.

Bangladesh: Hasina's Awami League, BNP condemn Yunus's Eid address as he picks April 2026 to hold polls
Former PMs of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia's parties Awami League and BNP, respectively, slammed the country's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's Eid address in which he announced that the country will hold polls in April 2026. read more Two of the most prominent parties of Bangladesh have rejected the country's Interim Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's decision to hold elections in April 2026 , demanding that the polls be conducted by the end of 2025. After completing 10 months in power, Yunus used his Eid address to announce that the country would go to the polls in April next year. It is pertinent to note that this will be the first national election in Bangladesh after a violent protest in the country toppled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government. Shortly after Yunus's address to the nation, both ex-PM Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Hasina's Awami League issued respective statements condemning Yunus's 10-month-long leadership. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Following a meeting of BNP's national standing committee, chaired by acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the party said that Yunus is trying to delay elections. 'The chief adviser's Eid address went beyond the traditional festive message and ventured into political issues unrelated to the Interim Government's stated three-point mandate," the party said in a statement following the meeting. BNP slams the timing of it all Zia's party criticised Yunus's discussion of topics like ports and economic corridors, calling it inappropriate and politically biased. BNP insisted that the tone and language of the chief adviser's speech felt like Yunus was crossing the boundaries of political decorum. BNP outrightly rejected the April election proposal, citing concerns over the timing, particularly the overlap with the holy month of Ramadan, school examinations, and adverse summer weather conditions. The party went on to question why the elections could not be held in December 2025 , a date also supported by the country's Army, insisting that Yunus had provided no specific justification for the delay. Referring to the sacrifices of citizens during the July–August 2024 uprising, the BNP warned that any further delay in polls would only deepen public frustration and anger. Awami League calls Yunus 'fascist' Meanwhile, ousted Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina's Awami League also criticised Yunus's address to the nation, where he announced that Bangladesh's general elections will be held in April 2026. 'We want an election that honours the sacrifices of the martyrs. One with the highest number of voters, candidates, and parties participating. Let this be remembered as the freest and fairest election the nation has seen," Yunus said in his address. The Awami League slammed Yunus, saying the chief adviser was trying to cover up his failures by blaming the previous Awami League government and 'creating a false narrative of crisis.' It is pertinent to note that Hasina's party is already banned from contesting in polls , a move condemned by the party. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Awami League said that Yunus's government lacks democratic legitimacy and serves foreign interests rather than the people of Bangladesh. The party warned that many in the interim government hold foreign passports and will leave the country, but their actions could cause irreversible damage to the nation. Overall, the statements from both the Awami League and the BNP reflected that two of the biggest parties in the country are displeased with Yunus. With inputs from agencies.

Tipra Motha demands immediate detection, deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Tripura
The Tipra Motha – a constituent of the ruling BJP-led alliance – has demanded the detection and deportation of all illegal migrants from Bangladesh residing in Tripura. A four-member delegation of the party, led by MLA Ranjit Debbarma, met Governor N Indrasena Reddy and raised the demand on Friday. 'We met the Governor today. The issue is that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has stipulated a 30-day timeframe to start the process of detection and deportation of illegal migrants in Tripura. In other states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Assam, the process has already started. We have demanded that the process be started in Tripura too,' Debbarma told reporters after meeting Governor Reddy. He added that a similar kind of notification was also issued in 2017. The Tipra Motha leader said that not only the illegal migrants, but also those providing shelter to them, must be brought under the purview of the law. Earlier, Debbarma wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals, urging him to push them back. The Twipra Students' Federation (TSF) has also demanded that the government start the process of detecting and deporting Bangladeshi migrants staying illegally in the state. 'We have seen that other states are doing it. But the Tripura government is silent. We appeal to the government to take strong initiative regarding the notification. We have started the 'clean and drive illegal migrants mission' from today,' Hamal Jamatia, General Secretary, TSF, said. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons, and two Nigerians were arrested between January 1, 2024, and February 28 this year for staying illegally in Tripura. A further breakup of the data shows that 483 illegal foreigners were arrested from August 5, 2024, when the Sheikh Hasina government fell in Bangladesh.

Bengaluru stampede: Justice D'Cunha Commission told to focus on events at M. Chinnaswamy stadium
The seven-point Terms of Reference (ToR) for the one-man judicial inquiry commission of former High Court judge Michael D'Cunha to probe the stampede that killed 11 persons limits the scope of the inquiry to happenings at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and not the entire celebrations in Bengaluru on June 4. The police have argued that the open-air event on the grand steps of the Vidhana Soudha, organised by the government of Karnataka and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), followed by the unilateral announcement by the RCB of a victory parade despite denial of permission by the police, brought lakhs of people to the streets, eventually causing overcrowding and stampede at the stadium. The ToR asks the Justice D'Cunha Commission to probe whether required permissions and clearances were obtained, and norms followed, while organising the event at M. Chinnaswamy stadium, based on the sequence of events what and who all were culpable for the stampede that killed 11 persons at the stadium, and precautionary measures taken to prevent such a mishap at the stadium, and lapses, if any, and whoever is responsible for the same. The commission has also been told to recommend measures to be taken to prevent such mishaps in the future. The government order constituting the inquiry commission under The Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, asks the commission to submit its report within one month, and also authorises Justice D'Cunha to rope in a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer for technical and legal help, if needed.
