IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rainfall till August 12
1 2 Ranchi: The Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department issued yellow alert across the state from Saturday till August 12, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning activities. The Met dept. in its weather bulletin also issued an orange alert for West Singhbhum, Seraikela Kharsawan and East Singhbhum districts on Saturday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. "Due to a monsoon trough from northeast Uttar Pradesh to south Bangladesh across Bihar, Jharkhand, northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal, are likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activities in isolated places across the state from Saturday till August 12. Gusty wind speeding up to 30-40 kmph will also accompany the thunderstorm activities. Isolated places over west-central and adjoining north-western and southern parts of the state, likely to experience heavy rainfall on Aug 12," said Ranchi IMD head Baburaj P P. Several places across the state experienced rainfall on Friday as well. Ranchi got 1.3 mm rain, Jamshedpur 1.5 mm, Daltonganj 9.4 mm, Garhwa 6 mm, and Deoghar experienced the highest, 10.5 mm rainfall on Friday. Jharkhand received 845.2 mm rainfall till Friday from June 1. The rain has brought down the maximum departure across the state, over 4°C in many places. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.1°C, a drop of 3.2°C from the normal temperature, on Friday. Similarly, Jamshedpur recorded 28°C, a drop of 4.4°C, Daltonganj and Bokaro recorded 30.5°C and 28.5°C respectively, marking a drop of 1.6°C. On the contrary, Chaibasa recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state on Friday 33°C, marking an increase of 2.7°C from the normal. IMD issues yellow alert for heavy rain in 12 districts today
Ranchi: The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Ranchi office has sounded a yellow alert for 12 districts in the northern and adjoining central parts of the state for heavy rainfall on Sunday. The warning comes amid an active monsoon phase in the region, which has brought intermittent showers over the past month. The yellow alert was issued for Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Giridih, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, and Sahibganj. "Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places due to the current synoptic features. Thunderstorm and lightning activities accompanied by gusty wind, speeding up to 30-40 kmph, are also likely to occur at isolated places on Sunday and could continue across the state till Aug 8," said Baburaj P P, the head of Ranchi IMD. Jamshedpur experienced 12.4 mm of rainfall, Khunti 15 mm, Saraikela 4.5 mm, and Bokaro 1 mm on Saturday. The state has received 778.8 mm of rainfall from June 1 till Saturday. East Singhbhum experienced the highest of 1,186.4 mm rainfall, Saraikela-Kharsawan 1,046.2 mm, Ranchi 991.8 mm, and Latehar recorded 963.3 mm. Seven districts received large excess rainfall, another seven experienced normal rainfall, while the rest 10 districts received excess rainfall.
