Janmashtami Outfit Ideas 2025: One of the most beautiful traditions of Janmashtami is dressing up your child as the playful Makhan Chor or Bal Gopala, bringing alive the tales of Baby Krishna's charm and mischief. From tiny dhotis in shades of yellow and blue to crowns adorned with peacock feathers, these costumes perfectly capture the spirit of the festival. This year, Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 16.
For this look you will need a yellow dhoti with a contrasting dupatta in any bright shade. Tie the dupatta over the shoulder and accessorise your child with a peacock feather crown, floral garlands, armlets, and anklets. Finish off the look by adding a small tilak on the forehead.
White Minimalist Krishna Costume
This costume requires only a white dhoti and simple jewellery. Dress your kid in a white dhoti, then take a red dupatta and tie it around his waist. Accessorise your kid with gold necklaces, pearl bracelets, and a peacock feather on the head.
Classic Makhan Chor Look
Dress your child in a yellow dhoti and kurta, and add a small butter pot and a flute as props. Smudge a little cream or butter on the cheeks for creating the perfect Makhan Chor look. For accessories add a peacock feather crown, floral garlands, anklets and armlets.
Royal Krishna Costume
For this look, you will need an embroidered silk kurta and dhoti to bring out the royal look. For accessories add a studded crown, kamarbandh, and gold-toned ornaments.
Gopala Krishna Look
Dress your child in a simple cotton dhoti and a scarf tied across the chest. For props add a toy cow, bamboo stick, and a flute. To complete the look, add a peacock feather headband and shell necklaces.
Krishna Costume with Flute & Butter Garland
To create this look, you will need a dhoti in dual tones. For accessories use a crown, long pearl necklaces and a garland made of small artificial butterballs, which can be easily made with cotton and white cloth. Drape the butter garland like a mala around the neck to complete the look.
