McDonald's quietly axes three burgers from its menu and fans are 'heartbroken'

We hate to be the bearers of of bad news, but McDonald's has quietly axed three classic burgers from the menu. If you've found yourself searching the menu of the fast food chain for the Bacon Double Cheeseburger or the Bacon Mayo Chicken, you're out of luck. McDonald's confirmed both burgers were cut in May, while the Triple Cheeseburger was axed in June. Disgrunted fans have been pining the news on social media. 'The bacon double cheeseburger is important to the McDonald's culture… I'm so disappointed,' wrote @Troy_h8 on X, while @DoktorWatson called the tripple slashing a 'horror of horrors'. Others said they hoped it was a lie. Sorry kids. The Bacon Double Cheeseburger was added to the McDonald's lineup back in 2018, initially in just 64 UK restaurants, before rolling them out nationwide. It initially cost £1.99, although the price was increased to £2.89. It featured two patties, two cheese, two rashers of bacon and onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup and a bun – and it will be sorely missed. However, you can get around the system by ordering a Double Cheeseburger and adding bacon as an extra, so don't despair just yet. The Triple Cheeseburger hit the menu two years later in 2020, with three patties and three slices of cheese, for a modest price of £2.19. One fan was equally as upset this had been axed. 'Bring back the Triple Cheese Burger, I'm honestly heartbroken,' wrote @rachellaura_. 'McDonald's in my area stopped doing their Triple Cheese Burger. I cried,' added another. Why have these changed been made? A McDonald's spokesperson said: 'We're always evolving our menu with our customers in mind to keep things fresh and exciting.' But the changes aren't all bad, because new menu items have hit the restaurants, too. The classic Big Tasty and Big Tasty with Bacon, which are rarely featured on the menu, despite being incredibly popular, have returned until mid-September. Last sold in 2024, the burgers both feature a beef patty, Emmental cheese, onions, tomatoes and a smoky sauce, all served in a toasted sesame bun, and one has some extra bacon. More Trending The catch? You'll have to head to East Anglia to get your hands on one. There's also the Chicken Big Mac making a return. The chicken version of the classic, which features two patties, a slice of cheese, pickles, lettuce and Big Mac sauce, will be back on McDonald's menus everywhere except for East Anglia and Tyne & Tees, for a limited time. But the whole of the UK will be able to enjoy a bunch of other returning fan-favourites, including Spicy Chicken McNuggets served with a Spicy Chilli Dip, the Fajita Chicken One, (a wrap made with creamy fajita sauce, tomato salsa, onions, cheese and lettuce with either crispy or grilled chicken), Chilli Cheese Bites and the Milky Way McFlurry with milk chocolate stars, malt flavoured pieces and a chocolate sauce. How to save at McDonald's You could end up being charged more for a McDonald's meal based solely on the McDonald's restaurant you choose. Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30% cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other. You can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 at any time by filling in a feedback survey found on McDonald's receipts. The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey. You'll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer. There are some deals and offers you can only get if you have the My McDonald's app, so it's worth signing up to get money off your meals. The MyMcDonald's app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android phones and is quick to set up. You can also bag freebies and discounts on your birthday if you're a My McDonald's app user. The chain has recently sent out reminders to app users to fill out their birthday details - otherwise they could miss out on birthday treats.
