Benefit cookout rescheduled to Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)—A fundraiser to help the family of Tamiya O'Quinn, who was killed in an accident last Saturday, has been postponed until Sunday. A benefit cookout was supposed to be held earlier Friday, but had to be rescheduled due to the weather. The proceeds from the event will help her family pay for funeral expenses. The cookout will take place this Sunday at Baesler's Market in Terre Haute. You can get an Angus beef hot dog or hamburger along with chips and a drink for seven or organizations needing five or more meals can call Baesler's to place an order. Join WTWO and local organizations for the Put it Back Summer Food Drive

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – You could make a difference for local children in need with our Pack it Back for the Summer Food Drive. The effort is underway now and is a partnership between our station and several local organizations. Steel Dynamics provides new backpacks that will be filled with easy-to-prepare non-perishable food items. People can donate food at Toyota of Terre Haute or at Baesler's Market in Terre Haute. Pre-made bags with food items can be purchased at Baesler's. The Vigo County School Corporation will deliver the backpacks to children who need them. Davis Park Elementary School Principal Dr. Tammy Roeschlein said they're so thankful for the community's support of this effort. 'It's really nice because many of our children need supplemental food items. We do a backpack program. They're used to eating breakfast, lunch at school, so this supplements for the summer. It helps families. It helps kids,' said Dr. Roeschlein. You can learn more about the food drive and see a list of suggested donation items here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. 'Pack It Back for Summer' returns

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Summer break is not too far away and for many children, that can mean uncertainty about their next meal. That's why WTWO has, once again, organized 'Pack It Back for Summer.' The event is a community-driven initiative to ensure students in need have access to food during the summer months. The process includes many local organizations. Steel Dynamics provides brand-new backpacks, then businesses and residents, such as Baesler's Market, donate non-perishable food, before WTWO and volunteers organize and fill the backpacks. The Vigo County School Corporation will deliver those bags to children in need. Kristine O'Hare, Marketing Representative for Baesler's Market, said the event fills two needs for children. 'It does provide kids with some food to take home', O'Hare said. 'In addition to that, they get a nice LL Bean backpack every year. It kind of helps with two things there.' You can donate or purchase items for 'Pack It Back for Summer' at Toyota of Terre Haute or Baesler's Market until May 9th. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
