The seven best cafes in Gwent according to our readers

At the top of the list is Castell Coffi in Caldicot.

Located in Caldicot Business Park, it serves coffee, homemade Welsh cakes, toasties, paninis, fresh sandwiches, and cakes.
It is open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm.
One reviewer said: "Fabulous coffee shop catering largely for local workers.
"Really friendly staff, great coffee, but omg, those Welsh Cakes.
"Heavenly."
The second café is Baffle Haus in Pontypool.

It is a motor-themed café serving coffee, pastries, and cakes.
It also has breakfast items like Cajun chicken salad wraps and vegetarian options.
A reviewer said: "A lovely biker's stop.
"If you are a biker or petrol head, this is a must to visit for coffee, and something to eat."
In third place is Bar Piazza in Newport.

This Italian café is family-run and serves coffee, sandwiches, baguettes, paninis, and cakes.
One person said: "I've been going here for many years with my daughter.
"However, now I go with my granddaughter as my daughter passed away.
"The staff have always been very friendly and will do anything to help you for you.
"I ordered an afternoon tea for my granddaughter (she is only 9) and all I can say is OMG it was amazing.
"I'm 100 per cent sure if you popped in even for just a cuppa, you'll not be disappointed."
The Pot Café in Newport is in fourth place.

It is open every day except Sunday, from 7.30am to 2.30pm.
One person said: "I've read a lot of reviews on here and recently visited with friends I can say it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time large portion size and not your usual greasy spoon the staff are great and can't do enough for you I would highly recommend the pot cafe to anyone wanting a quality breakfast or lunch then coffee is also the best around 10/10 thank you."

"Loads of tradition options on their menu, including veggie and vegan.

The Green in Caerleon is in fifth place.

It serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, and an à la carte menu on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for dinner.
One person said: "Great place for a quick lunch.
"Friendly, efficient service, lots of choice, good value and good food - the brie, bacon and cranberry paninis were delicious."
Ellie's Café in Cwmbran is in sixth place.

It is open every day except Sunday, from 8am to 2pm.
One person said: "Stopped at Ellie's in the off-chance as we were in the area and it didn't disappoint.
"A warm welcome and a friendly chat, we were made to feel welcome as if we had been regular customers for years even though it was our first visit.
"We both had breakfasts and a warm drink, the food was presented well and was tasty.
"A perfect start to the day.
"I can't recommend Ellie's cafe enough, keep the high standards going and I'm sure that you will go from strength to strength."
