After hit-and-run in Bagan Serai, lorry driver arrested following public tip-off
IPOH, Aug 16 — A lorry driver suspected of being involved in an accident that claimed the life of a policeman at Kilometre 94 of the Ipoh-Butterworth road, in front of Taman Selinsing Indah, near Bagan Serai on Wednesday, was arrested yesterday. Kerian district police chief Supt Jafri Md Zain said the 64-year-old male suspect was detained at his home in Bagan Serai at about 6.30pm following a public tip-off. 'The suspect has no prior criminal record, and his urine test returned negative. This morning, we took a blood sample for analysis to detect traces of drugs or alcohol. 'We are now waiting for the completion of the investigation and will submit the report to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions,' he said when contacted yesterday. On Wednesday, a policeman died after the motorcycle he was riding grazed a lorry at the location. Constable Muhammad Hakim Danial Ruhiman, 23, who served at the Bagan Serai police station, suffered serious injuries to his waist and legs before succumbing to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Taiping Hospital. — Bernama

Perak policeman killed after motorcycle grazes lorry, driver still at large
IPOH, Aug 14 — A policeman was killed after the motorcycle he was riding grazed against a lorry, causing him to fall onto the road at Kilometre 94 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth in Taman Selinsing Indah near Bagan Serai yesterday. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said that they received a report regarding the incident from a member of the public at 6.25pm. He said the victim, Constable Muhammad Hakim Danial Ruhiman, 23, from the Bagan Serai Police Station, died while receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital. 'Initial investigations at the scene revealed that the victim was riding his motorcycle from Bagan Serai towards Taiping. When he reached the location, his motorcycle grazed against a lorry travelling in the same direction, causing him to fall onto the road. 'When the investigating officer arrived, the lorry was no longer at the scene, and members of the public in the area were also unable to provide detailed information about the vehicle,' he said in a statement today. Noor Hisam said the victim sustained serious injuries to the waist and legs. He said they are now reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) and dashcam footage from other vehicles to aid the investigation, in addition to efforts to locate the lorry and its driver.
