Bagatelle to be honoured in Bray hometown

Irish band Bagatelle are set to be honoured next month in Co Wicklow with the unveiling of a commemorative bench at Bray Head. Founding members Liam Reilly and John O'Brien died in 2021 and 2019, respectively. The band formed in Bray in 1978. Bagatelle achieved several number one singles in Ireland with songs such as Summer in Dublin, Second Violin and Trump Card. They also have enjoyed multiplatinum and gold album sales with emigration songs including Streets of New York, Flight of the Earls and Boston Rose, all written by frontman Liam Reilly. READ MORE They were also the support act for Bob Marley at his 1980 Dalymount Park show in Dublin. The gig was Marley's last outdoor performance before his death in 1981. [ Liam Reilly Obituary Opens in new window ] The unveiling of the bench on September 7th will be carried out by Cathaoirleach of Bray County Council Erica Doyle. Bagatelle founding member and bass player Ken Doyle will be present on the day, and the ceremony will be followed by Bagatelle and Friends playing in the bandstand on Bray Seafront. The band has been acknowledged for paving the way for other Irish outfits in the 1970s. Following Reilly's death in January 2021, TG4 produced a documentary about his life, Bagatelle – Ómos do Liam Reilly, which aired a year after his death. The remaining band members then decided to go back on the road to celebrate Reilly's life, his music and their legacy. Reilly fronted Bagatelle for more than 40 years. He also came joint second at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1990 with the Somewhere in Europe. Fellow band member John O'Brien, a guitarist, songwriter, banjo and harmonica player, died in April 2019.

Plans to turn historic Saltney pub into HMO rejected

Earlier this year plans were submitted to Flintshire County Council to transform the Corner Pin in Saltney into a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO). The Corner Pin has been vacant since closing down in October 2023 and the plans proposed dividing the interior into nine bedsits – seven singles and two doubles. Originally opened as a beer house called the Liverpool Arms, before it closed the Corner Pin was one of the last bastions of the ancient British pub game Bagatelle. Related reading: According to the plans six bedsits would have been situated downstairs with the bar converted into one of two bathrooms while upstairs there would be three more bedsits, a bathroom and a laundry room. A first floor outdoor terrace was to be blocked off so residents could not use it. In their decision notice refusing permission for the HMO, Flintshire planning officers said: 'The application contains insufficient amenity space and areas for clothes drying. 'Furthermore, no provision has been made for cycle parking and bin storage. The application would therefore have an adverse effect on the living conditions of future occupiers and is therefore contrary to Policy HN7 of the Flintshire Local Development Plan.'

TV star is FIRED after 'lying that she'd been mistreated by staff at upscale restaurant'

A journalist has been fired from her anchor job after claiming that she had been mistreated an exclusive restaurant in Mexico City, and harassing of one of its employees in a viral video. Claudia Mollinedo and three of her female friends gathered for Saturday dinner at upscale restaurant Bagatelle, but stayed well past the venue's official closing time of 1am. The former actress claimed that after running up a bill of 25,000 pesos – around $1,330 – the staff turned on the lights at 1:30 am and then began to clean the restaurant before telling them it was already time for them to leave. The upset group stood in front of Bagatelle while Mollinedo went on a full tirade. '[We are] outraged because here in this restaurant called Bagatelle in Polanco where we paid almost 25,000 pesos for the bill, they kicked us out, they left us outside,' Mollinedo said in the recording that she posted on her Instagram Stories. 'In the street, literally, 1:30 in the morning' one of her friends then said while cutting her off. Mollinedo then jumped in and said that they were told to leave 'because they had to close.' Her friends appeared bothered that the workers asked 'four ladies' to abandon the restaurant 'because they close at 1.' Pictured: Bagatelle's Mexico City location in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco Mollinedo explained that the workers brought out their brooms to start cleaning and slammed them for treating them like thugs and kicking them out. 'They turned on the lights, started sweeping, and still escorted us out. It was as if we were criminals, not having paid the bill, and a bill as expensive as the one we had to pay,' she said. 'We've eaten in much nicer places, where they respect your stay until the last minute, and here they treated us like criminals.' Moments later, Mollinedo confronted one of the workers who allegedly had led them out of Bagatelle. 'Then, it was this man who escorted us,' she said while focusing her cell phone's camera on him. 'Look, this man was the one who escorted us.' The worker then snapped, 'Here we close at 1, it's not how you want.' The viral confrontation caught the attention of Mollinedo's bosses at Imagen Television, where she was fired Monday, local news outlets reported Mollinedo was also suspended from her columnist gig at El Independiente. 'Our media outlet does not share your point of view and will therefore suspend its weekly collaboration until the events are clarified,' El Independiente said in a statement. Imagen Television has yet to publicly comment on Mollinedo's termination. The veteran journalist took to Instagram on Monday evening and offered a mea culpa for her actions. Mollinedo acknowledged that her video was 'reckless and, above all, poorly presented' and that she used poor judgment in posting it online. 'I understand that the video seemed arrogant, haughty, and even overbearing,' she said. 'I assure you that's not me, and those who know me professionally and personally and have been with me for more than 14 years of experience know this.' Mollinedo and her three friends were visibly upset that after spending 25,000 pesos [about $1,330] on a dinner bill, they were told they had to leave Bagatelle's Mexico City location at 1:30 am on Saturday - 30 minutes after it had closed for business Mollinedo accepted Imagen Television's decision to dismiss her and admitted that her position at the network didn't place her above anybody else. 'I don't consider myself superior to anyone, I don't consider myself untouchable. It was never my intention to use my voice to harm or discredit anyone,' she said. 'If I offended anyone, if I created an offensive image, and unintentionally contributed to hate speech that doesn't respect my values, I sincerely apologize,' Mollinedo added. 'I'm going to take this time to reflect and, above all, to rebuild myself with truth and empathy.' Mollinedo's social media followers did not warm up to her apolody. 'The video didn't "seem" like it, the video *showed* your way of being and that of your friends,' one person commented. 'By the way, you apologize to half the world, but doesn't the worker you exposed and filmed without permission deserve an apology,' another follower said. 'Your tone of voice and body language are so neutral that it seems dishonest,' one person said. 'I don't know who's advising you, but it's awful.'

As influencers drop thousands on Hamptons getaways, here are the hot spots that are worth the hype

Ah, Montauk. Once a haven for eccentric fishermen, the coastal town known lovingly as The End of the World has become a place to see and be seen among the influencer set. While some insist Montauk is NOT the Hamptons (even if the maps say otherwise), the evolution of the place is undeniable, as evidenced by the brand new Bagatelle beach club that popped up just days ago on its shores, adding Montauk to the ranks of Courchevel, St. Barths, and St. Tropez. The 'out east' lore has become a siren song to over-worked city dwellers longing for a for a beachy getaway that is only a Hampton Jitney bus ride away. Social media influencers clad in breezy Zimmermann linen sets smile over glasses of rosé and $97 lobster cobb salads, hinting at an idyllic slice of coastal joy that is so close you can taste it - if you happen to have a few thousand dollars to spare. Should you embark on a journey to The End, it is imperative that you have a plan to maximize your hard earned money and time away from work. Where to stay The decision of where to rest your head is perhaps the most important choice in shaping your stay out east. Will you wake up to the sounds of the ocean, or will you wake up in a stranger's childhood bedroom that was converted into a vacation rental? While some say that a shared house is the ideal way to enjoy the Hamptons, the fact is, most share houses are situated in residential neighborhoods that are not necessarily near a beach. Driving to the beach also poses a challenge, as parking passes are often required (and in short supply). Many of these homes also do not have a pool - and the ones that do are not much cheaper than a hotel. To ensure that your beach vacation actually includes a beach, smart travelers may consider a stay at Marram Montauk - one of the few hotels that sits along the water rather than further inland. To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the hotel provided Daily Mail with a look at its luxurious offerings - including ocean front rooms, daily yoga, world class surf instruction, and top notch food from Mostrador, the in-house restaurant. Each guest room is luxuriously appointed with high thread count linens by Frette and indulgent soaps by high-end parfumier Le Labo. Views from the oceanfront suites are unmatched. Sip coffee on your balcony and watch the surfers ride the legendary Montauk waves - or try your hand on a board with a lesson from the famous Engstrom family, who operate a surf shack on the premises. Room rates at Marram start as low as $207 per night during the month of June, but can soar to as much as $1515 per night during the high season in August. Plan ahead to get the best prices. Where to eat One of the most charming aspects of a stay in the Hamptons is that breakfast is deeply engrained in the culture. A fluffy pastry and an iced coffee are essential to starting the day off right. Mostrador makes all of its pastries in-house, making it a must-visit destination in the area, specifically for its Medialunas - Argentinian croissants - which sell out every morning. At lunch time, did at the hotel or make your way over to Duryea's - a seafood restaurant with stunning views of the water. The restaurant has gone viral for its $97 lobster cobb salad, which I grudgingly admit is worth every penny. The massive bowl of lettuce, bacon, and seafood is enough to feed an army, so be sure to bring at least four people to enjoy it with (and to split the bill). Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere, which will have you questioning whether you are still in New York. For snacks, Round Swamp Farm is a must-visit, even if only to say that you went. Round Swamp is a high-end grocery store which has been erroneously accused of selling $40 chicken tenders. They are actually $22.99, and while that is still not cheap, it is not far off from the rising price of food at major restaurant chains. As for the taste, while the tenders are perfectly crispy and juicy, they are lacking in flavor. If you are seeking the best chicken of your life, you are better off visiting an actual restaurant. However, Round Swamp's baked goods and produce are another story. Pick a ripe peach and a bag of Campfire Cookies (priced at $12.99). For dinner, head over to The Grill at Ruschmeyers to dine at what can only be described as an elegant summer camp for adults. Indulge in anything from caviar-topped crudo to the restaurant's self-described 'Best Burger in Montauk.' While I have not tasted every burger in Montauk, I can confirm that this one is pretty darn good. Where to go out If morning yoga and surfing lessons haven't worn you out for the day, Montauk has no shortage of nighttime activities - in fact it is arguably the nightlife epicenter out east. While much has been said of the scene at Surf Lodge, (viral videos have documented the daunting task of gaining entry, with some paying up to $500 to get in) 2025 has brought fresh opportunities for party people to get their fix. Celebrated nightclub Gospel NYC is having a summer pop-up inside Ruschmeyer's, offering guests the opportunity to rage all night before crashing in a luxe cabin, stocked with sumptuous Byredo soaps. For those traveling with families, or who simply have no desire to party, Marram offers a truly glorious beachside bonfire, complete with s'mores. After a jam-packed weekend, a spa day is crucial. Head to Naturopathica spa in East Hampton (there is another location soon to follow at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. Treat yourself to a facial followed by some shopping on Main Street before heading back home to the grind of work.
