Port Carbon woman wanted for eluding police

POTTSVILLE — Police are searching for a Port Carbon woman who led city officers on a high-speed chase last month through the city and on Route 61, endangering other motorists. An arrest warrant was issued for Autumn Bahena, 45, who was charged Feb. 27 with felony eluding police and summary charges of duties at a stop sign, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving in connection with the Feb. 26 incident. A city police officer noticed a Chevrolet Cruz sedan weaving in and out of traffic, almost colliding with vehicles stopped at the traffic light at North Centre Street and Laurel Boulevard. Bahena was playing loud music, dancing and screaming out the window while driving, police said. The officer followed Bahena and used her warning lights, attempting to pull her over on North Centre Street, but to no avail, police said. With lights and siren activated, the officer continued to pursue the Chevy Cruz. The Cruz continued to swerve in and out of traffic, accelerating to more than 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. The car traveled through city streets, nearly hitting vehicles, police said. Additional officers were requested to aid in the pursuit. Entering Route 61 South, the driver continued to drive erratically and accelerated to more than 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, police said. The vehicle eventually stopped at 214 Canal St., Port Carbon. Police ordered Bahena — and then removed her — from the vehicle. She admitted to taking Prozac, which was prescribed, police said. A blood test was done at a local hospital for suspicion of driving under the influence.
