Bahrain and China Deepen Partnership
TDT | Manama Bahrain and China marked one year of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership yesterday with a high-level seminar focused on expanding diplomatic, trade, and technological cooperation. The event, hosted by the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat), brought together officials, researchers, and think tank leaders from both countries to explore new pathways for deepening bilateral ties. Ties in motion The seminar, held at Derasat's headquarters, was attended by His Excellency Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bahrain, and featured virtual remarks from H.E. Dr Mohammed Ghassan Shaikho, Bahrain's Ambassador to China. H.E. Ni highlighted the historic strength of Bahrain-China relations and praised the growing collaboration across sectors including infrastructure, education, and culture. He also lauded Derasat's role in advancing joint research and fostering meaningful knowledge exchange. H.E. Dr Shaikho, speaking via video call from Beijing, reflected on the progress made over the past year and affirmed the importance of continuing to align strategic priorities under the bilateral partnership framework. Panels on progress The seminar featured four sessions, each addressing key components of the relationship. The first panel focused on political and economic relations, while the second discussed Bahrain's engagement in multilateral frameworks. A third panel explored the role of modern technologies in strengthening cooperation. The final session, dedicated to trade relations, gathered representatives from Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Nasser Centre for Science and Technology, and Chinese research institutions to identify new areas for investment and commercial growth. Vision aligned Derasat's initiative reflects Bahrain's broader aim to build high-quality global partnerships that support sustainable development and innovation. The seminar echoed key pillars of Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, reinforcing the Kingdom's role as a strategic node between the Gulf and East Asia. The dialogue reaffirmed both countries' shared intent to turn diplomatic frameworks into actionable cooperation with longterm impact.

China Grants Visa-Free Entry To Bahraini Citizens
China has announced that it will implement a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Bahrain, alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait. The announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during a press briefing on Wednesday. The visa exemption will come into effect from June 9, 2025, and will remain valid until June 8, 2026. Under this policy, citizens of Bahrain can enter China without a visa and stay for up to 30 days for purposes including business, tourism, family visits, cultural exchanges, and transit. Boosting Ties Between Bahrain and China This decision marks a major step forward in strengthening Bahrain-China bilateral relations and further reflects China's growing commitment to enhancing cooperation with Gulf nations. It also opens new avenues for Bahraini entrepreneurs, tourists, and students seeking greater access to the Chinese market and culture. Full Visa-Free Access for All GCC Countries With this latest inclusion, all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries now enjoy visa-free access to China. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar were granted the exemption earlier in 2018. According to Mao Ning, this complete visa-free coverage underscores China's strategic approach to deepening partnerships with the GCC bloc. Bahrain Eyes Greater Chinese Tourist Influx Through Strategic Partnerships
Minister of Tourism Her Excellency Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi has affirmed the strength of Bahrain-China relations, particularly in the tourism sector, noting both countries' mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation and expanding their strategic partnership. Her remarks came during a meeting with a high-level delegation from China's Guangdong Province, led by His Excellency Liu Hongbing, Deputy Governor of the Provincial Government. The delegation included officials from the sectors of culture, tourism, sports, and foreign affairs. Minister Al Sairafi emphasized that China remains one of the Kingdom's key target markets under Bahrain's 2022–2026 Tourism Strategy. She highlighted Bahrain's continued efforts to promote its tourism offerings in China through partnerships with major travel companies and tailored campaigns based on the preferences of Chinese travelers. She added that Bahrain is working closely with tour operators and agencies in China to launch customized tourism packages. The goal is to attract more Chinese visitors and bolster collaboration in the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector through coordination with top Chinese firms. During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues to deepen tourism collaboration with Guangdong, explore opportunities for knowledge exchange, and consider joint tourism initiatives and events. Al Sairafi noted that the launch of Gulf Air's direct flights to Guangzhou and Shanghai has significantly boosted efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic and tourism sectors. Minister Al Sairafi expressed Bahrain's eagerness to build on its existing relationship with China, aiming to unlock new areas of cooperation—especially in sustainable tourism, the exchange of tourism and investment delegations, and the promotion of Bahrain's rich cultural, historical, and natural assets. For his part, Deputy Governor Liu Hongbing expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome, affirming Guangdong Province's keenness to strengthen its cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain and pursue initiatives that would further enhance tourism and cultural ties between the two sides.
