Call for urgent action to safeguard environment

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has emphasised the importance of adopting further initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental security. This call aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who continue to champion national strategies that prioritise environmental stewardship and long-term ecological well-being. HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman made the statement as he chaired yesterday a meeting on the latest developments of the Bahrain Mangroves initiative, at Riffa Palace. The meeting reviewed updates on the 2025 action plan for the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative. His Highness emphasised that the strategic goal of quadrupling the Kingdom's mangrove tree population by 2035 reflects Bahrain's broader commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. He affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to strengthening environmental protection and ensuring the long-term sustainability of its natural resources. His Highness noted that building national capability to secure a better future and confront environmental challenges particularly climate change requires a united and swift, coordinated action. Commendation His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman commended the efforts of the Supreme Council for the Environment, led by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King, along with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and all relevant authorities for their continued implementation of key environmental initiatives. He noted that the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative serves as a national model for advancing environmental security.

TDT | Manama His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa today chaired a meeting on the latest developments of the Bahrain Mangroves initiative, at Riffa Palace. HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman highlighted Bahrain's commitment to adopting modern practices to address global climate change challenges, in line with the ambitious vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. His Highness emphasised the importance of national efforts in supporting environmental sustainability by integrating strategies and practices and enhancing joint cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve the goals of the National Action Plan, including carbon neutrality. During the meeting, progress in implementing the afforestation plan was reviewed. His Highness emphasised the importance of raising awareness about planting mangroves and doubling the Kingdom's afforestation efforts, highlighting their positive impact on Bahrain's environment and their contribution to achieving food security. The Bahrain Mangroves Initiative's participation in the Bahrain International Garden Show as part of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture's pavilion and its success were reviewed. In this regard, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman highlighted the success of the Bahrain International Garden Show, attributing it to the directives and support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the Consort of His Majesty the King and Chairperson of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD). HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman affirmed Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa's commitment to the Kingdom's agricultural sector and the various initiatives that contribute to its development, highlighting their significant impact on Bahrain's green spaces. His Highness congratulated the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture on winning first place in the Best Government Sector Pavilion category at the Bahrain International Garden Show, in which the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative participated. His Highness commended the efforts made by the Ministry in supporting development efforts and strengthening the agricultural sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain, wishing them success in achieving the Kingdom's aspirations. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone involved in the initiative's pavilion at the Bahrain International Garden Show. His Highness affirmed that, through national efforts, the Kingdom will be able to achieve its wide-ranging ambitions across all fields. A number of senior officials also attended the meeting.
