Burglary suspect nabbed after rooftop standoff
KLUANG: Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly broke into a student dormitory here and later attempted to evade capture by climbing onto the rooftop of a nearby houses and buildings, yesterday. The suspect was eventually arrested at 8am. Earlier, at 4.20am, a man lodged a police report after discovering a break-in at the Yap Tau Sah dormitory. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said members of the public had spotted the suspect spotted loitering on a rooftop. They attempted to persuade him to come down. "Instead, the man leapt from one rooftop to another and refused to surrender," said Bahrin when contacted. Police arrived shortly after, but the man continued to resist arrest, prompting the Fire and Rescue Department to be called in for assistance. He was eventually detained unharmed. A background showed no criminal record. His urine test returned negative for drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, a fine, or both upon conviction. Five Indonesians held for murder
KLUANG: Police have arrested five men in connection with the death of an Indonesian man at an oil palm plantation here. Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the suspects, aged between 21 and 31, were arrested at 1am yesterday. 'At 9.36am on Saturday, we were alerted about a man in his 30s who had died at Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital after being stabbed in the left side of his chest. 'Further investigation led to the arrest of the five suspects, who are all Indonesian men,' he said in a statement yesterday. The suspects, who have no criminal records, have been remanded for seven days. 'We are still investigating the cause of the fight that led to the man's death,' ACP Bahrin said. He urged those with information about the case to come forward and assist the police investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. In an unrelated case, ACP Bahrin said the police arrested a drug-positive personal driver after he had been involved in an accident. The 40-year-old man was arrested at 6.30am on Friday after testing positive for methamphetamine. 'The suspect was driving towards Kluang town from Taman Sri Kluang and suddenly veered into the opposite lane. 'He collided head-on with another car in that lane,' he said. The suspect was uninjured while a 36-year-old businessman in the other car suffered injuries to his hands and had some abdominal pain. After the incident, the suspect was taken to the Kluang police headquarters' Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for a urine test. The suspect also has a criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering dangerous drugs.

5 Indonesians held over fatal stabbing
KLUANG: Police today arrested five Indonesian men in connection with the fatal stabbing of a fellow countryman in an oil palm plantation in Paloh yesterday. The victim, in his 30s, was rushed to Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital yesterday at 9.36am, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause of death was identified as a penetrating chess injury. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the suspects, aged between 21 and 31, were picked up in the early hours of today, less than 24 hours after the victim's death. Bahrin said all five suspects are Indonesians, with no prior records. Urine tests for all came back negative. They have been remanded for seven days. He said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive for the murder. He added that preliminary findings suggested the victim and suspects were involved in an altercation prior to the stabbing. Driver arrested for drug use after Kluang accident
KLUANG: Police have arrested a personal driver who tested positive for drugs following an accident here. Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 40-year-old man was arrested at 6.30am on Friday (June 6) after testing positive for methamphetamine. "The suspect was driving towards Kluang town from Taman Sri Kluang and suddenly veered into the opposite lane. He then collided head-on with another car that was travelling in the lane," he said in a statement. ACP Bahrin stated that the suspect escaped unharmed while the other driver, a 36-year-old businessman, suffered injuries to his hands and some abdominal pain. "The suspect was brought to the Kluang police headquarters' Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for a urine test where he tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that the man has four criminal records. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering dangerous drugs.
