Uncle arrested over alleged rape of niece two years ago
KLUANG: Police arrested a 37-year-old man yesterday over allegations of raping his niece two years ago, when she was a minor. He was arrested at his house along Jalan 12/4, Taman Matahari, where the alleged rape reportedly took place in 2023. The suspect, an internet cable installer, was remanded today to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, said the district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh. Bahrin said the arrest came after the victim, now 17, allegedly received a WhatsApp message from the suspect on June 24, while at school, requesting a birthday gift. When she said she did not have sufficient cash to buy him a gift, the suspect suggested she had a "gift" that did not require funds, which the girl understood as an invitation to sleep together. "Further investigations revealed that the suspect, who is married but without children, had reportedly raped her two years ago while she was sleeping at his house. The girl, then 15, did not tell anyone out of fear," Bahrin said in a statement today. Following a medical examination at the Encheh Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital, medical officers confirmed the presence of old hymenal tears consistent with past sexual assault. The suspect was remanded for five days until July 15.
