These scammers instilled fear in the doctor who began sending out her lifesavings to safeguard herself from a 'money laundering" case. What Is Digital Arrest? Digital arrest is a cyber scam where a victim receives calls or emails from fraudsters posing as law enforcement. These callers 'arrest" the unsuspecting victims and blackmail them by extorting money or sharing personal information for the crimes they have not committed. With nowhere to go and cornered by the fear tactics, the victims end up losing money or data to these scammers. Scammers Go After Big Fish The aforementioned sensational case of Gujarat doctor losing Rs 19 crore to digital arrest was only the tip of the iceberg. According to reports, the fraudsters, riding high on their catch, even secured a loan against the doctor's gold jewellery. They transferred those funds as well. Earlier in January, popular social media personality Ankush Bahuguna had revealed that he had become a victim of digital arrest. Recounting the 40 hours of being held 'hostage" by the fraudsters, Bahuguna shared that he was coerced into making financial transactions after they accused him of false accusations. How could a social media influencer fall for digital arrest asked fans and trolls. 'To everyone saying how could you fall for it it's a scam – It's easy to say but not everybody reacts the same way to panic, not everybody is aware of this scam, so many people have lost lakhs & crores to this scam. These people do research on you & tell you things they know will affect you & that's exactly what happened. I don't wish this on anyone. Stay safe and instead of calling this stupid, make ppl around you aware of it," wrote Bahuguna on Instagram. Bahuguna revealed that he received an automated call from an international number claiming a cancelled package delivery, prompting him to press 'zero' and connect to a scammer who alleged a package with illegal substances linked to his Aadhar details was sent to China. The scammer warned of a serious crime and an arrest warrant, pressuring a panicked Ankush by claiming there was no time to visit a police station. The representative then offered to connect him directly to the police, exploiting his fear in a digital arrest scam. Bengaluru Women Forced To Strip Two women were made to strip on a video call for a 'medical examination" to identify birthmarks and tattoos. The fraudsters, posing as Mumbai cops, recorded their video and started blackmailing them. The two women endured a 9-hour call in what became the digital arrest from hell. First Conviction Earlier in July, nine were convicted in a digital arrest by West Bengal court. The convicts were found guilty of duping a retired agricultural scientist of nearly Rs 1 crore. Ban continues on use of horses, mules on Kedarnath route due to virus outbreak

Rudraprayag, The ban imposed on Monday on the movement of horses and mules along the trek route to Kedarnath after 14 of them died of a viral infection in a span of just two days continued on Thursday even as Uttarakhand Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna visited Sonpryag to take stock of the situation. The local administration is planning to allow healthy equines to carry goods from Gaurikund to Kedarnath as a trial on Friday. If it is successful, the movement of healthy, uninfected equines can be regularised, official sources here said. With no horses and mules operating on the route for several days, pilgrims are facing problems. Only those fit enough to walk uphill are arriving at the temple. Those who cannot due to old age or injury are coming on Dandi-Kandi, a stretcher-like structure carried on the shoulders of two persons which is a prevalent mode of transport in the area. A team of vets has tested more than 16,000 equine animals so far. The sick ones are being quarantined to stop the spread of the virus which is infectious. However, no specific number of the quarantined animals has been given by the administration so far. Bahuguna reached Sonprayag to take stock of the situation. He inspected the horse mules and animal management arrangements and facilities for the passengers. He held a meeting with officials to review the situation and discuss measures to prevent the spread of the equine influenza virus. At the meeting held at the GMVN Guest House in Rampur, Bahuguna said all the horses and mules which are deployed on the Yatra route should be regularly examined and immediate action should be taken if any sign of an infection is detected. Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal, Animal Husbandry Commissioner of Government of India Abhijit Mitra, Secretary Animal Husbandry BVRC Purushottam, Animal Husbandry Director Neeraj Singhal and other departmental officials attended the meeting. Bahuguna said preventive measures suggested by the experts at the meeting should be implemented. The minister also instructed Purushottam to immediately issue an SOP in this regard. Dr J L Singh, Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Pantnagar University, suggested that before sending the horses on the journey, they must be given adequate rest, timely medicine, warm water and 15 days' quarantine in case they are diagnosed with an infection. Bahuguna also reviewed arrangements like passenger sheds, toilets and drinking water system for the pilgrims. He interacted with pilgrims, traders and mule owners and listened to their problems. Bahuguna directed the officials to keep all the arrangements related to the Yatra in perfect order. Any kind of negligence in screening the virus will not be tolerated and the concerned officers and employees will be responsible for it, the minister said. Four veterinary centres will be opened from Gaurikund to Kedarnath with deployment of 15 people at each of them including doctors, policemen and other staff who will continuously check the horses and mules moving on the Yatra route. If negligence is found at any level, the superintendent of police should register an FIR against the concerned persons, Bahuguna said. It was also decided that the horses and mules undergoing treatment at the quarantine centre would be treated free of cost by the Animal Husbandry Department. For cattle owners who want to take their animals home, free treatment and fodder will be arranged by the department at 50 per cent subsidy, it was decided. Bahuguna also announced that if a horse or mule dies during the Yatra, its owner will be given a compensation of ₹32,000 by the government. He said all the horses and mules participating in the Yatra will also be insured by the government.

50 plays in 17 days: Story festival celebrates 35 female authors in Lucknow

Lucknow is hosting a distinctive story festival showcasing stories penned by female authors. Fifty stories by 35 writers are being brought to life as plays at the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy, all directed by Sangam Bahuguna and Vikas Srivastava. "Except for 1-2 writers, all are from Lucknow, and we've been rehearsing for the plays over the past two months. Three stories are staged daily, and on the concluding day, we will present two stories. The endevour is to promote the storytelling and theatre in Lucknow," says Bahuguna. He portrayed the antagonist in the film Youngistan and has appeared in projects like Madam Chief Minister and Dosti Zindabad. Another highlight of the festival is that 70% of the actors are women. "Since the stories are written by female authors, the themes are also related to them. In some plays, we have exclusively female actors portraying different characters," adds Bahuguna. Lucknow-based actor Ambarish Bobby, seen in TV shows like Aur Bhai Kya Chal Raha Hai, has written the anthem of the festival 'Le chal kahaniyon ke safar pe'. "Since childhood, we have grown up listening to kahaniyan (stories). As we grow older, we become occupied with other things, and these stories often get lost. This festival is an attempt to bring stories to life through plays and we've intentionally kept each play around 30 minutes, as that's the maximum attention span of people of age groups,' he says. Bahuguna is excited about his attempt to director 50 stories in 17 days, which he hopes will enter record books. 'We are already in talks with record books officials, and they are monitoring the process. My previous endeavour to direct 30 full-length plays in 30 days has also made it to the record books,' he adds. The festival will conclude on May 7.
