'I am not heartless or prioritising politics in current situation'

He said taking a break or stopping his routine would only serve the purpose of those trying to intimidate him. Rafizi Ramli SHAH ALAM – Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli stressed that he will not allow threats and attacks on his family to break his spirit or stop him from carrying out his duties as a people's representative. Rafizi said some had advised him to take a break following the syringe attack on his child, but he emphasised that life and responsibilities cannot simply be put on hold. He said taking a break or stopping his routine would only serve the purpose of those trying to intimidate him. 'It's not that I am heartless or putting politics first in the current situation, but the aim of the threats against my family is to make me give up and keep quiet. If I do not continue with my routine and responsibilities as usual, then their goal will be achieved,' he said in a video posted on Facebook on Friday. Former Economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli reveals that a threatening message was sent to his wife following the assault on their 12-year-old son on Aug 13. Rafizi, who is also the former Economy Minister, believed that the attack on his child was linked to his meeting with a group of whistleblowers about a financial scandal. He said the incident was also a warning and an attempt to silence him from continuing to expose the matter. When asked if the scandal involved any politicians, Rafizi said he would leave it to the police to carry out further investigations. Rafizi also announced that he would appear on the "Yang Bakar Menteri" (YBM) podcast tonight with two guests – Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and education activist Victor. Among the topics to be discussed are the attack on his family, the threat of a bullying culture and education issues. He added that he would proceed with his 'Kaunter Bergerak' (Mobile Counter) programme at Taman Muda morning market the next day to meet Pandan residents as usual. The attack occurred on Wednesday when Rafizi's wife and child had just entered their car to leave a shopping mall in Putrajaya, before his child was pulled and jabbed with a syringe. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the incident is believed to have occurred at around 2pm at the mall's passenger pick-up and drop-off area. More Like This

Anwar: PKR elections won't prompt cabinet reshuffle

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that the 2025 PKR party elections will not trigger any Cabinet reshuffle. However, Anwar, who is also PKR president, said he would not stand in the way of any leader who wished to resign from government due to the outcome of the party polls. "This (party election) is a contest between close friends and loyal colleagues. "There is absolutely no question of changes to the Cabinet. "I don't know, but we cannot stop someone's aspirations (to resign from the Cabinet if they lose in the party polls). "If you ask me, there is absolutely no plan to carry out any reshuffle," he said during a media briefing with editors of local and international media at the Seri Perdana Complex here today. He was responding to comments by Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who recently said he was prepared to step down from the Cabinet if he failed to retain his post as PKR deputy president in this month's party election. Also present at the briefing were Media Prima's News & Current Affairs (NCA) Group Managing Editor Jasbant Singh; Deputy Group Editor and New Straits Times Group Editor, Farrah Naz Abd Karim; NCA Television Networks Group Editor, Azhari Muhidin; Berita Harian Group Editor, Zulkifli Jalil; and Harian Metro Group Editor, Husain Jahit. Rafizi had made the remarks during a recent episode of the podcast Yang Bakar Menteri, titled Yang Berhenti Menteri?, saying he was ready to quit the Cabinet should he lose his position as PKR's number two. He said that even if he withdrew from the Cabinet, he would continue to serve as the member of parliament for Pandan and, in doing so, be free to speak openly on any matter. Commenting further, Anwar reminded party members to elect leaders who can strengthen the party's machinery. "With this contest, I stress: choose those who can help fortify the party's operations and harness all our strengths," he said. In the upcoming PKR elections this weekend, Rafizi will face off against Nurul Izzah Anwar in the race for the party's deputy presidency.

Get ready to be PKR's 'war commander' if elected deputy, Rafizi tells Nurul Izzah

SERDANG: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has reminded Nurul Izzah Anwar to be prepared to become a "war commander" if she is elected as PKR's deputy president in the party election later this month. The Pandan member of Parliament said the responsibility must be carried out effectively, and to sustain grassroots support, Nurul Izzah must also be ready to confront her opponents. "If Nurul Izzah becomes deputy president, she must take over my role as the party's war commander— confronting blind loyalists, exposing issues like the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal, acting as a party negotiator, and holding talks with Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional. "Regardless of who is elected to the post, it's not just about what's offered, but how the role is executed and driven. "Even with the best offers, if there's no effective strategy to ignite energy and enthusiasm on the ground, nothing will come of it," he said during the Yang Bakar Menteri podcast here today. He was believed to be referring to Nurul Izzah's primary mission if elected — focusing on working closely with party members, supporters and volunteers, particularly in the 50 marginal seats in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16). However, Rafizi said contesting in party elections is a right for all, and that Nurul Izzah has strong justifications for her candidacy — which must be respected, as every member has contributed to the party. "My only concern is with those in the party who are 'more spoon than soup' (overstepping their boundaries) — those who stir up unnecessary polemics both within and outside the party. "I worry about public perception, because regardless of the arguments we make, the ultimate judges are not the party delegates, but the voters and God." He added that Izzah, the eldest daughter of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, cannot avoid the issue of nepotism as she bids for the party's number two post. However, Rafizi, who is currently PKR's deputy president, believes that Nurul Izzah has her own valid reasons for contesting the party's second-highest position. "When Izzah contests the deputy president's seat, the party cannot escape the issue of nepotism. Everyone will have their own arguments. "It's up to Nurul Izzah to make her case. I have no intention of prolonging the matter, but I am concerned about public perception," he said.

Rafizi Ramli resumes YBM podcast in public setting

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is back with his Yang Bakar Menteri (YBM) podcast, but this time the Economy Minister will be moving away from the studio and into a public space. The Economy Minister said he will use the opportunity to answer questions and provide explanations on the latest developments. "This time the YBM podcast will be taken out of the studios to a space which is open to the public," he said. "I will take this opportunity to offer an explanation and answer questions related to the issues and hot polemics that have been doing the rounds over the past one to two weeks," he said in a post on X on Thursday (May 8). The event is scheduled to take place at 9pm on May 10 at Dewan Serbaguna MBSJ in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Rafizi recently received criticism for going on leave amidst a global economic crisis. His absence also fuelled rumours that he would be resigning from his cabinet position. However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim later dismissed the rumours of Rafizi's resignation.
