KOTA KINABALU (July 4): Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has advised Rotarians to turn their job into a hobby and turn their hobby into a passion. The State Finance Minister gave the advice at the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu(RCKK) 74th Installation Banquet, at Hyatt Regency recently. The occasion was the handing over ceremony from the outgoing President Datuk George Taitim Tulas to the incoming President Jack Lo, who took office as the President of RCKK on July 1. Masidi, who was the guest-of-honour, said he has 'lost touch how many times' he has been in Rotary events, but found it always a pleasant experience and away from the hustle and bustle life as a politician. He was full of praise for all the good works of Rotary, especially in the rural areas. 'Do not fear of getting old' he quipped, 'as you get older, you accumulate experience and wisdom. I am in my third year as an assemblyman and more than 20 years as a politician. I am also getting older with more white hairs, but I look at my work, my job, my responsibility as a hobby, and my hobby is my passion. You will always look forward to your hobby everyday.' Masidi said that Rotarians must have their heart in their job, only then can they excel in what they do, adding 'Turn your job (responsibility) into a hobby, work hard and enjoy your work, always serve with passion, you will do well, that's what life is about. No matter what your religion is, it is God calling us to do well in life. It is what God expects us to do, to excel. It is 'amal ibadah''. He concluded by saying that the best Malaysian lives in Sabah. Meanwhile, Lo in his maiden address, announced the new Rotary International slogan 'Unite for Good'. He called on the members to unite and use their skills, time, experience and hearts to do good to the community and underprivileged, especially in the rural areas. 'We need to amplify our ability to create real and lasting change. I am glad to lead a team of passionate individuals in the new Board and I know we are ready to take on this journey together. We will do what matters most with unity, purpose and passion. We will not forget to nurture the youth who will be our leaders of tomorrow, through programmes such as the International Understanding Bazaar and the Bakat Interact, where they will have the opportunities to showcase their creativity and skills,' he said. The event was attended by more than 200 Rotarians from local clubs and representatives from the Rotary Club of Makati, Philippines. The new Board of Directors are Immediate Past President Datuk George Taitim Tulas, President-elect Daniel Wong, Vice President Ben Lo, Secretary Kenson Voo, Treasurer Thor Gervasi, Club Service Director Joseph Selestine, Community Service Director Paul Foronda, Vocational Service Director Richard Yong, International Service Director Andrew Chong, Youth Service Director Danny Wong and Sergeant-at-Arms Major (rtd) Ong Kean Soon.
