Nigeria: Bauchi, Toro LGA launches empowerment programme, distributes $31,158

The people of Toro LGA in Bauchi State have benefitted from various empowerment items worth ₦50 million through the Dembo Economic Empowerment Programme (DEEP), initiated by the Executive Chairperson of the Council, Pharm Abubakar Dembo. The items were distributed to selected beneficiaries during the official launch of the programme by the Chairperson, held in Toro, the headquarters of the LGA, on Saturday. While launching the programme, Abubakar Dembo said, 'I am pleased to inform the good people of Toro Local Government Area that we have officially launched the first phase of the Dembo Economic Empowerment Programme (DEEP).' Speaking further, he said, 'The programme includes the distribution of equipment and financial support amounting to approximately ₦50,000,000.' He explained, 'This initiative is part of our administration's plan to boost economic development within the community, particularly among youths and women, with the aim of reducing unemployment and encouraging self-reliance.' The Council Boss stressed, 'The purpose of the programme is to create meaningful change in the lives of our people by providing them with the tools and financial support needed to become productive members of society.' While announcing the items, he disclosed, 'In this phase, the following items and financial support were distributed: 26 motorcycles, 26 grinding machines, 30 noodle (spaghetti) making machines, 20 sewing machines, 1 volcanic machine, ₦300,000 cash support to 5 individuals, and ₦200,000 cash support to 1 individual.' 'I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi), for his leadership, guidance, and unwavering support to my administration and the Toro Local Government as a whole,' he added. Abubakar Dembo further stated, 'I also extend my gratitude to the members of the Local Government Council, traditional and religious leaders, and all stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support for this administration.' He assured, 'This programme will not stop here. It will continue in batches to increase the number of beneficiaries across various parts of the Local Government Area. This is in line with our commitment to inclusive grassroots development.' He also said, 'I reaffirm that the PDP-led government remains committed to protecting the dignity of our people and improving the economy.' The Council Boss concluded, 'We hope this programme will bring about a significant positive transformation in the lives of our citizens while promoting peace and sustainable development in Toro Local Government. #GreaterToro #GreaterBauchi Insha Allah.' Nigeria: Bauchi govt to recruit 10,000 youths into civil service

The Bauchi State Government has announced that arrangements have been finalised for the employment of 10,000 youths into the State Civil Service. This disclosure was made by the Head of the Civil Service (HoS) of the State, Barrister Mohammed Sani Umar, during a courtesy visit and presentation to the State Civil Service Commission. The HoS congratulated the Chairman of the Commission on his recent appointment and wished him a successful tenure in leadership. Sani Umar noted that the Chairman assumed office at a time when the State Government is preparing to recruit workers from across the state to fill vacancies in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This initiative is intended to strengthen the current workforce, reduce the unemployment rate in the state, and solicit cooperation from all stakeholders for its successful execution. To this end, the HoS disclosed that the State Government will introduce an employment portal for candidates, who must be indigenes of the state, and are interested in joining the State Civil Service. The HoS further revealed that the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has already approved the employment of 10,000 job seekers into various cadres across the MDAs. He stated that adequate publicity would soon be carried out across the state to create awareness and provide guidelines on how to apply through the State Employment Portal. He also commended the management of Bauchi State Information and Communication Technology for their professionalism and dedication whenever their services are required. Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Dr Ibrahim Alhaji Muhammad, described the initiative as a welcome development for the teeming youth seeking employment in the state. He expressed his appreciation that Bauchi State had embraced modern technology in the employment process by introducing a website for candidates to apply online, which would undoubtedly reduce obstacles and improve equity, fairness, and transparency. In his presentation, the Director-General of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Bauchi, Malam Hayatuddeen Babama'aji, explained that before a candidate could access or log into the portal, they must create an account requiring some personal information and a password. Represented by the Centre Director, Jibreel Hussain Kawure, and assisted by the Training Manager, Mukhtar Nuruddeen, he stated that the portal contains over 100 positions, enabling candidates to select the type of work they wish to be employed for across the MDAs. It was further disclosed that the release of the portal would be announced soon by the State Government, as Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has directed the office of the Head of Civil Service and the Commissions to fast-track all processes for the exercise to commence. Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed the State Implementation Unit for the NG-CARES programme to, as a matter of urgency, work out the necessary modalities of assisting the State to access additional financing from the programme. The Governor gave the directive at the official launching and distribution of ICT enhancement facilities to 7,000 beneficiaries under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Bauchi-Cares Result Area 3 MSEs held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi. Bala Mohammed revealed that, at the moment, the World Bank has generously provided an additional financing package of $500 million to support the rollout of the next phase of NG-CARES 2.0, where participants will access $12 million, with additional $46 million set aside as unallocated funds to be redistributed during the program's mid-term review meeting. He noted that the successful implementation of the NG-CARES Result Area 3 in Bauchi, which focuses on strengthening the capacities of small and medium enterprises through the distribution of ICT enhancement facilities worth over N1 billion, was made possible through the invaluable assistance of the World Bank and assured the partners that NG-CARES 2.0 would be fully implemented in the state. According to him, the distribution of the ICT enhancement facilities marks a significant milestone in the collective efforts to harness the power of technology for the sustainable development in state and to alleviate poverty through the empowerment of the people. He stressed that 'With these tools, our youths, small business owners, farmers, and traders will now have the means to expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to the economy in a more meaningful way 'This program is not just about distributing technology; it is about creating a sustainable ecosystem where businesses can thrive and poverty can be reduced. 'My administration remains fully committed to tackling poverty in Bauchi State. As we have shown with this program, addressing poverty requires multi-faceted solutions.' 'This is why we will continue to work closely with the World Bank and other development partners to expand and strengthen our social protection programs.' Bala Mohammed reiterated the unwavering commitment of his administration towards empowering Bauchi citizens with the tools needed to create opportunities, build resilience, and participate meaningfully in economic development and insisted that his vision for Bauchi is to be a state where every citizen, regardless of background, has access to the resources required to succeed. On his part, the National Coordinator of the NG-CARES programme, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Atiku Musa, congratulated Bauchi on the milestones achieved in the implementation of the program and highlighted that the distribution of the ICT gadgets is a key component of the NG-CARES initiative. He explained that the program is designed to promote digital inclusion and empower beneficiaries with the skills and tools needed to thrive in today's technology-driven world. The Commissioner for Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Sadiq Hamisu Shira, said the initiative reaffirms Governor Bala Mohammed's vision of leveraging technology for economic growth and underscores Bauchi State's commitment to empowering its citizens in the digital era. According to the Commissioner, the distributed gadgets include smartphones, tablets, laptops, and POS machines, providing recipients with access to digital tools that will help them improve their businesses, education, and overall livelihoods. 'I would like to express my proud gratitude to His Excellency for his visionary leadership and continued support for the advancement of small and medium enterprises in Bauchi State and in particular for making this initiative a reality.
