(Supplied/Ontario Provincial Police) Two individuals are facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township earlier this month. At about 1 a.m. on July 5, authorities received a report of a pickup truck in the ditch near Michon Road. Officers located the vehicle nearby and arrested both the driver and passenger following an investigation. Drugs and weapons seized 'Police seized an amount of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $45,500,' OPP said in a news release. The search of the vehicle also resulted in the seizure of an expandable baton and a wooden club. As a result, the driver, a 47-year-old woman from Carnarvon Township, and her passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, were both charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, drug possession and drug trafficking. The driver also faces charges of failing to comply with a release order, driving while under suspension and impaired driving. In addition to charges Under provincial legislation, the motorist also received a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days at the owner's expense. Both accused were held for bail hearings. The driver remains in custody, while the passenger was released is scheduled to appear in court in Espanola on Aug. 18.

Two motorists were killed in a collision early Friday along County Highway DD in St. Croix County, Wis., police say. St. Croix County authorities received a call about 4:04 a.m. Friday from a cell phone's automatic collision notification. Police tracked the phone and located a two-vehicle crash near the 2200 block of Highway DD in Baldwin Township. A 2012 Chevrolet Cruze traveling westbound on the highway had collided with a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound. Both motorists were pronounced dead at the scene. One driver was an 18-year-old man from Emerald, Wis., and the other driver was a 24-year-old man from Baldwin, Wis. No passengers were involved. Police are still investigating the collision and did not provide identification of the victims. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said two vehicles going opposite directions on County Trunk Highway DD in Baldwin Township collided just after 4 a.m. Both drivers — an 18-year-old man from Emerald, Wisconsin, and a 24-year-old man from Baldwin — died at the scene. Neither has been identified publicly. The county has now seen five traffic deaths this year, the sheriff's office said. The crash is being investigated.
