First look images show Colin Farrell in Netflix's Ballad of a Small Player
FIRST look images have been released showing Colin Farrell in the new Netflix film Ballad of a Small Player. The Dublin-born actor stars alongside Fala Chen and Tilda Swinton in the new production, which is directed by Edward Berger. Colin Farrell in Ballad of a Small Player Farrell stars as Lord Doyle, a high-stakes gambler lying low in Macau, China, in the adaptation of the 2014 novel by Lawrence Osborne. The Netflix film is set for release next month The dramatic thriller will open in cinemas in the US on October 15 and in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on October 17, before making its global streaming debut on Netflix on October 29. Netflix, which is distributing, has just announced premiere dates for the film, as well as released a handful of first look images. Based on the novel by Lawrence Osbourne, the movie follows a high-stakes gambler (Farrell) who is lying low in Macau after his past debts begin to catch up with him. Who else stars in it? The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Fala Chen (Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire), Deannie Yip, and Alex Jennings (The Crown). Rowan Joffé (The American) wrote the screenplay. When does it come out? Ballad of a Small Player will open in U.S. theaters on Oct. 15, in U.K. and Irish cinemas two days later, and on Netflix Oct. 29. What are its award chances? The release could continue a hot streak for Berger, who, after All Quiet on the Western Front in 2022 and Conclave last year, has become somewhat of an awards season staple. He was nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay for Western Front, and Conclave was nominated for eight Oscars, winning Adapted Screenplay for writer Peter Straughan. Farrell is also on an awards run himself, having just been Emmy nominated for his role in The Penguin, a part that already won him his second Golden Globe since 2023.
