Five festivals not to miss in Longford this summer

An array of countywide events and festivals are scheduled to take place in Co. Longford over the next two months and are not to be missed. Whether you have been looking forward to them for months or you find yourself in a pinch for last minute weekend plans, here are five upcoming events to know about for July and August. Two Provinces Triathlon The Lanesboro Triathlon Club in Co. Longford are gearing up to welcome 800 triathletes expected to participate in the Two Provinces Triathlon between today, Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12, 2025. Road closures are in place for Saturday between 11am and 2pm on the R371 from Slieve Bawn Hotel to Scramoge Cross and Rathcline Road from the entrance to the quarry at Harold's Cross. Lanesboro Car Park and harbour will be fully closed on Saturday until 4pm to facilitate racing events safely. Anyone with queries or in need of emergency access to the restricted areas are asked to contact racedirector@ or call 086 317 9745. Ballinamuck Olde Fair Day The highly anticipated Ballinamuck Olde Fair Day is scheduled to take place this Sunday, July 13, 2025. Live music on the day will be performed by Nite Fever and special guest, Mick Flavin. Organisers promise a day of entertainment for all the family starting with the Vintage Parade which leaves from Gaigue at 1pm led by Longford Pipe Band down towards the fair field. New activities have been added to the Sunday schedule alongside the fair's regulars such as Cow Bings, Guess the Weight, Guess the Mess and the popular Dog Show. OSNS (Old School New School) Car Show, St Mel's Secondary School Longford Promising to be one of the hottest car events of the summer the OSNS Car Show 2025 is taking place on Sunday, July 13 on the grounds of St. Mel's College in Longford Town from 12pm to 4pm. Car enthusiasts and those simply looking for a day out are promised an incredible line-up of both classic and modified cars on display celebrating all things old and new. The Marquee in Drumlish Festival The Marquee in Drumlish Festival is back this year and scheduled to place from August 15-18, 2025 on the Old School Road, Drumlish, Co. Longford. Promising four nights of great music, festival organisers announced this week that The Savage Hearts will be joining the weekend line-up which also includes The Rurals, The Whistlin Donkeys, Michael English, Ray Lynam, Rhythm & Sticks and many more Abbott Longford Marathon The 2025 Abbott Longford Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, August 24 with races starting from 7am through 9am. On Saturday. August 23, participants can collect their timing chips, race numbers, t-shirts and goodie bags from the small ballroom at the Longford Arms Hotel on Main Street, Co. Longford. From 6am on Sunday, participants can also collect their numbers and goody bags from the same location as Saturday ahead of the day's races. The full marathon walkers and ultra marathon runners will both start their races at 7am. Wheelchair athletes will start at 8.55am and half marathon, marathon, marathon relay, half and 5k runners will all start at 9am.
