Malaika Arora, known for her exemplary dance moves, has featured in some of the most popular Bollywood songs. But only a few songs have achieved legendary status. When talking about Malaika 's iconic song, we just can't forget her iconic moves in the song Chaiyya Chaiyya. It has given me so much in life. Mani Ratnam's Vision: No Makeup, Mud-Rolled Outfit Directed by Mani Ratnam, the shoot pushed Malaika out of her comfort zone. She revealed that she originally showed up in full makeup and a pristine lehenga-choli styled by Manish Malhotra, but Mani Ratnam had a very different vision. 'Manish had done my clothes and all that. It was pristine, clean, and chaka chak, you know, like, 'Get me that lehenga choli,' and I had done makeup and all, and I was waiting. Mani Sir came and said, 'Oh ho… Too much makeup – take it out. Not looking nice, please take that out. I was like, 'Take out matlab pura makeup nikal ke.' He is like, 'Just take out everything.' So I went and washed my face." The surprises didn't stop there. The director also instructed the team to roll the outfit in the mud to give the character a Banjara vibe. Malaika went on to say, 'Then he said, 'The outfit is looking too clean, it is looking too neat, and I don't want that. You know you are somebody, you return to show like a banjara. You have to have that. So take the outfit and just put it in the mud. Then just let it look. Just roll it in the mud a couple of times.' I was like, firstly, I have to remove my makeup, and then I have to wear an outfit which has been rolled in the mud. So yeah, I have to wear that." ICW 2025: Rimzim Dadu reimagines the Banjara craft
Designer Rimzin Dadu is known for pushing the fashion envelope with every collection. Her showcase at the Hyundai India Couture Week 2025 in association with Reliance brands, an initiative of FDCI, was not an exception. Models showcase Rimzim Dadu's collection. Titled Oxynn, her brilliant showcase drew inspiration from the fierce and untamed spirits of the Banjara tribes of Gujarat. The designer reimagined mirrored textiles and oxidised jewellery, giving these sartorial staples her own fresh and modern spin. Her material innovation technique led to the exploration of crafts such as Patola and indigenous mirror embellishment. The results were sculpted dresses and metallic corded harem pants, which stole the limelight. Tassels were big in the show. And signature materials, including steel, metallic wires, and custom textiles. All these were interwoven into the garments, bringing a sense of structure, shine, and new-age form. From brat green lehengas to standout blouse designs, the show was nothing short of alluring. And for menswear, the designer combined paisley designs with corded technique.

SC survey panel seeks extension to May 28 for full inclusion of nomadic groups in Karnataka
BENGALURU: The committee conducting the state-wide survey of Scheduled Castes, headed by Justice Nagmohan Das, has sought an extension of its deadline from May 23 to 28 to ensure full and accurate enumeration. This is to accommodate responses from historically underrepresented nomadic SC groups such as the Lambani, Banjara, Alemari and others who have sought time to furnish details, said Justice Das here on Friday. But the survey is on track for timely completion despite initial hurdles. Launched on May 5, it has already covered an estimated 72% of its target. 'We are confident of completing the survey well within May 28. The extension is not because of delays but to guarantee 100% inclusion and authenticity,' he told the media. The ambitious survey has drawn national attention, with Union authorities seeking details into Karnataka's methodology, he said, adding, 'We have already shared our survey protocols and progress with the Centre.' On concerns about the exclusion of certain SC communities, such as Mansa, Kembatti, Madiga Dasari and Mera, he said that while these groups are availing SC benefits under broader categories like Adi Karnataka or Adi Dravida, efforts will be made to ensure their accurate nomenclature in official records. 'We will inform the government about their specific identities so that due process is followed to officially include them in the SC list, which currently comprises 101 castes,' he said.
