Factory quotes: Beef price offers drop 10c/kg this week
This week's factory quotes have seen beef price offers reduced by 10c/kg following the June Bank Holiday Monday. Several factories had their kill sheets for this week filled out since last week, with many of the cattle booked in for this week are in at the higher prices from last week. The move to reduce price offers has come as a surprise to most farmers as supplies of cattle are expected to be scarce for the coming few weeks. Factory procurement staff are telling Agriland that beef price needs to reduce further but, with tight supplies expected, it remains to be seen if further price cuts will materialise. Most factories had reduced their number of kill days to four due to the seasonal drop-off in cattle supplies in late May/and into June. Factory quotes: Heifers and steers This week, most outlets are quoting €7.40/kg on the grid for bullocks and €7.50/kg on the grid for heifers, but cattle booked in to many of the outlets since last week are in at rates 10c/kg higher than this. The Certified Irish Angus 30c/kg off-season breed bonus ended last week, and many factories have moved back to a 20c/kg Angus breed bonus for this week with others continuing to offer the higher Angus breed bonus for eligible cattle. The Irish Hereford Prime 25c/kg off-season breed bonus ended the previous week and most outlets are paying a 15-20c/kg Hereford Breed bonus for this week. Cow price This week continues with up to 20c/kg of a price difference between outlets for cows. Worth noting is Ashbourne Meats is running a cow carcass competition from June 30 to July 4, to celebrate 40 years of business with prizes of up to €500 available to farmers. Generally speaking, 'U' grade cows are being quoted at up to €7.40/kg this week with 'R' grade cows being quoted at approximately €7.10/kg. Better type, coloured 'O' grade cows are being quoted at up to €6.90/kg, while the plainer 'O' grade cows are being quoted at €6.70-6.80/kg. Fleshed 'P' grade cows are being quoted at€6.60-6.70/kg. Bulls Under-24-month bulls are being quoted at €7.60 and €7.50/kg for 'U' and 'R' grade bulls respectively. 'O' grade bulls are being quoted at €7.40/kg and 'P' grade bulls are being quoted at €7.30/kg. Under-16-month bulls are being quoted at €7.40/kg on the grid this week.

Liverpool parade-goer shares terrifying scenes before 'jumping to safety'
A Liverpool fan who was just inches away from the car that ploughed into the crowd during the parade yesterday has spoken about the terrifying experience on Good Morning Britain GMB: Eye witness discusses the Liverpool parade incident An eyewitness who was inches away from the car that ploughed into the crowd during Liverpool's victory parade yesterday has spoken about her experience on Good Morning Britain. Chelsea Yuen, who narrowly avoided the car recalled the terrifying and devastating events to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls. A large number of people were rushed to hospital after a car drove through a crowd in Liverpool, during police confirmed. The man arrested at the scene was the driver of the vehicle, Merseyside Police confirmed. Twenty-seven individuals, including four children, were hospitalised after the incident that saw a car mow down crowd members at Liverpool FC's trophy parade on Monday. Emergency services confirmed that two people are in a "serious" condition, including a child. Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the Bank Holiday Monday incident was not being treated as terrorism and was believed to be an isolated incident following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene. Speaking about what she saw, Chelsea said: "When the car came plummeting down it was inevitable it was going to hit people. Absolutely everybody was walking up the street. When we heard the beeping of the driver that was coming through the cars, that's when we looked up and saw the car coming towards us. We just narrowly missed being hit and managed to jump out the way into as much safety as we could be." "Then unfortunately, it carried on and continued into the other people behind us." Chelsea and all her family were fortunately safe, however, the hugely upsetting moment will live with her for a long time. "We were so grateful that we were safe and weren't hurt, although we almost feel guilty now that children were hurt, and the tragedies are a lot worse than we thought it was at the time." "If he wasn't beeping, we wouldn't have looked up, we wouldn't have moved out the way and we would've been hit," Chelsea continued. Opening up on how the devastating events affected the community, Chelsea said: "At times like this, Liverpool really do stick together and come together as a city, which is something to be proud of." Asked by Susanna if she thought the street was closed for vehicles, Chelsea said: "Due to the sheer amount of people, we thought it was closed off, and it should have been closed off. It's common sense that there should have been no cars in the immediate city area." In a statement, Sir Keir Starmer said: 'The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.' He later added: 'They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events. Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror." 'The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times. Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool.'

DWP makes change to Universal Credit payments at midnight on Friday
People on Universal Credit are set to see a change to their payments this week thanks to next week's Bank Holiday Monday. Normally, Universal Credit is paid once a month, with your exact benefits date changing depending on your circumstances such as when you claimed and your National Insurance number. State pensions, for example, are paid on different days of the week depending on what your National Insurance number ends in. This Friday, people on Universal Credit will receive their payments several days early thanks to the Bank Holiday Monday on May 26. Those who were due to receive a Universal Credit payment on Monday will now be paid three days early, on Friday, May 23 instead, by the Department of Work and Pensions. The payment normally hits bank accounts at midnight or just after midnight on the day it's paid, so should arrive at midnight on Friday (00.01am) or thereabouts. Other benefits may also be paid early including state pensions, Pension Credit, Child Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support and Jobseeker's Allowance. Universal Credit, as the name suggests, is a catch-all benefit for various types of support and can be paid to people to top up their in-work income as well as to those who have no income. To claim, you must be living in the UK, be over 18, be under state pension age and have less than £16,000 in savings. This year, Universal Credit was increased by 1.7% for inflation, with the rate varying between £316.98 and £628.10 depending on whether you're over 25 or live with a partner.
