An eyewitness who was inches away from the car that ploughed into the crowd during Liverpool's victory parade yesterday has spoken about her experience on Good Morning Britain. Chelsea Yuen, who narrowly avoided the car recalled the terrifying and devastating events to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.
A large number of people were rushed to hospital after a car drove through a crowd in Liverpool, during police confirmed. The man arrested at the scene was the driver of the vehicle, Merseyside Police confirmed.
Twenty-seven individuals, including four children, were hospitalised after the incident that saw a car mow down crowd members at Liverpool FC's trophy parade on Monday. Emergency services confirmed that two people are in a "serious" condition, including a child.
Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the Bank Holiday Monday incident was not being treated as terrorism and was believed to be an isolated incident following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene.
Speaking about what she saw, Chelsea said: "When the car came plummeting down it was inevitable it was going to hit people. Absolutely everybody was walking up the street. When we heard the beeping of the driver that was coming through the cars, that's when we looked up and saw the car coming towards us. We just narrowly missed being hit and managed to jump out the way into as much safety as we could be."
"Then unfortunately, it carried on and continued into the other people behind us."
Chelsea and all her family were fortunately safe, however, the hugely upsetting moment will live with her for a long time. "We were so grateful that we were safe and weren't hurt, although we almost feel guilty now that children were hurt, and the tragedies are a lot worse than we thought it was at the time."
"If he wasn't beeping, we wouldn't have looked up, we wouldn't have moved out the way and we would've been hit," Chelsea continued.
Opening up on how the devastating events affected the community, Chelsea said: "At times like this, Liverpool really do stick together and come together as a city, which is something to be proud of."
Asked by Susanna if she thought the street was closed for vehicles, Chelsea said: "Due to the sheer amount of people, we thought it was closed off, and it should have been closed off. It's common sense that there should have been no cars in the immediate city area."
In a statement, Sir Keir Starmer said: 'The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.'
He later added: 'They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events. Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror."
'The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times. Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool.'

National chair of the Prison Officers Association, Mark Fairhurst, said: "It is normal for every prisoner to have access to prison canteen items that they may purchase from private cash or prison earnings. "Restricting this would probably lead to a legal challenge under the Human Rights Act so the service would not be able to remove these privileges from prisoners." A Met Police spokesman said: "The Met is investigating after a prison officer was subject to a serious assault at HMP Belmarsh on the afternoon of Thursday, May 8.
