10-year-old sape prodigy Baptista Emmanuell shines at RWMF 2025, youngest to perform on main stage
Baptista and Korintus at RWMF 2025. KUCHING (June 25): Ten-year-old Baptista Emmanuell Korintus made history over the weekend as the youngest sape player to perform on the main stage of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF). The SJK Chung Hua Batu 7 Primary 4 pupil took to the stage on the festival's third and final night, where he performed a solo piece of traditional sape music titled 'Leto Ngorek', before joining his group Manai Kuwai to accompany the Kancet Ajai Warrior Dance on sape. The performance was part of a special showcase recommended by Sarawak Tourism Board chairman Datuk Dennis Ngau to intensify the atmosphere on the final night. The dance was led by Baptista's father Korintus Leban. Sharing the main stage that night with Buddha Beat featuring Sinaran Collective (Malaysia), Manhu (China), Tal Fry (India), Buluh Berkocak (Sarawak), La Chiva Gantiva (Colombia/Belgium), N'famady Kouyaté (Guinea/UK), and At Adau (Sarawak), Baptista stood out not only because of his age but also his captivating stage aura and traditional Orang Ulu attire from the Sekapan ethnic group. Baptista was originally selected to represent Malaysia at the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Long Beach, California on July 15-24 after winning a medal at the Malaysia Championship of Performing Arts (MCOPA) auditions here in April. Due to current safety concerns, the Malaysian team has decided to postpone its participation. 'If all goes well, the Malaysian team will rejoin the competition in 2026,' Korintus told The Borneo Post. Despite the setback, Baptista remains optimistic. 'I believe everything happens for a reason. I'll keep learning and playing the sape,' he said. His unique talent and humble personality have already drawn attention from established RWMF veterans such as At Adau and Jerry Kamit. Baptista said he hopes to collaborate with them one day. He also continues to perform with the group Ngelotak Danum — which means 'our presence is not to impress, but simply to contribute to the joy of the occasion'. Mikel Arteta told one transfer he must make to 'complete' his Arsenal squad
Arsenal are set to be active in the summer transfer window with new sporting directo Andrea Berta now in place at the club - with Mikel Arteta wanting a new striker for his side Matheus Cunha must be placed on Arsenal's transfer shortlist, according to former Arsenal ace Julio Baptista. The Wolves star is one of two options Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have this summer to complete the Gunners' squad. A new striker has long been on the agenda for the north London side, and Arteta had hoped for a new arrival in the January transfer window. Injuries have seen Mikel Merino lead the line in recent months and the gap in the squad is likely to be revisited in the summer. Arsenal were linked to Cunha in January, but the 25-year-old Brazilian ultimately extended his contract at Molineux. The Wolves ace has bagged 16 goals in 30 appearances this term, despite the Midlands club looking like a relegation candidate for much of the season. Those exploits have been enough to convince Baptista that Cunha can improve the Gunners' squad. The 47-times capped international reckons the forward thrive with greater opportunities presented by Arsenal team-mates. 'People talk about Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian. He's done incredible stuff at Wolves, so maybe he's the player that Arsenal need" told "Arsenal need to take a look at him, I think. Cunha should definitely be on their shortlist. He has performed brilliantly in a team that has found life difficult at times this season, so you would think that at Arsenal he would score even more goals given the chances that they create and the way they dominate most games. He would also be playing with better players." The talents of Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres have not gone unnoticed by Baptista either. The Sweden international has put a convincing argument forward to have gathered interest in the upcoming transfer window. 'Then there's Viktor Gyokeres, too," he added. "The boy has incredible numbers: 45 games, 44 goals, 11 assists. "Arsenal are one of the teams that are supposed to be really interested in him, and I can see why. I think the new Sporting Director Andrea Berta really likes him; he was on his radar when he was the Sporting Director at Atletico Madrid." Either player would improve Arsenal's offering next term, according to Baptista. The pair would bring an aura to the Emirates. "If I'm Arteta, I'm moving for one of those two," Baptista said. I think it's really important that Arsenal bring in a striker that is coming off the back of a great season and is full of confidence. "They need a player to join them who has that aura about them and is ready to complete the side,' Baptista said.

Uvas Canyon Park waterfalls reap benefits of recent Bay Area rain
MORGAN HILL — After a dry start to winter, our storms last month in February and now in March are a welcome sight. One of the benefits of our recent rain is the rushing waterfalls around the Bay Area including Uvas Canyon County Park in Santa Clara County. "So, we can walk right up to the trailhead from up that way," said Jesse Baptista, Santa Clara County Park Ranger. Baptista is grateful Uvas Canyon County Park is where he gets to spend his day at work. "I love the outdoors," said Baptista. "I love working in the parks. I grew up hiking, camping, fishing, and so being able to turn all my fun hobbies into a career, but in a protection type of way. I mean, I can't think of a better career than that." "We're going to see some really beautiful waterfalls and going to see some flowing of the creek," said Baptista. "It's going to be really nice, especially on a day like this. We're still a little misty. We just had some rain. Everything is wet. This is the best environment for Redwood forests to thrive in." Baptista said Uvas Canyon County Park is one of his favorite Santa Clara county parks, calling it a hidden gem. After a dry start to winter, heavy rain in February helped replenish water supplies to local reservoirs. That rain also flows down the eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, bringing an abundance of rushing waterfalls to Uvas Canyon County Park. "Oh, it's flowing!" said Baptista. "Like I said, I mean the water levels are really high and some of the creek crossings you might get your feet wet and then if we get to the mouth at the end, you'll see where it kind of starts puddling up. So it was a drastic change going from totally dry to tons of water." For Baptista, the waterfalls are not just beautiful but show how our recent rain is restoring everything that lives and grows here, helping this beautiful park come alive. Santa Clara county park rangers advise if you want to check out the Uvas Canyon County Park waterfalls, you'll need a reservation to come for a hike in the park. You can get a day pass at Confirmation of your reservation must be printed and placed on your dashboard when parked inside the park.
