Rs 670000000000: Masterstroke by Modi govt, from BrahMos and S-400 to Barak-1, India's war shield to get stronger

Rs 670000000000: Masterstroke by Modi govt, from BrahMos and S-400 to Barak-1, India's war shield to get stronger India has approved a major defence deal that will boost the country's military power. On Tuesday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared military projects worth around Rs. 67,000 crore. This includes advanced weapons like missile systems, air defence networks, long-range drones, and radar systems — all of which will strengthen the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Navy to get support from BrahMos and Barak-1 missiles As part of this plan, the Indian Navy will get upgrades for the BrahMos fire control system, BrahMos missile launchers, and the Barak-1 point defence missile system. The Navy will also buy new Compact Autonomous Surface Craft (CASC) robotic boats that can track and neutralize enemy submarines. These boats will help in undersea warfare by spotting and stopping threats from enemy submarines. Air Force to get new mountain radar The Indian Air Force will soon get special mountain radars that can keep a close watch on enemy movements in difficult and high-altitude areas. Along with this, the SPYDER air defence system will also be upgraded so it can be connected to the Integrated Air Command system which will improve its coordination and response. MALE drones: Pilotless but powerful The government has also approved the purchase of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones for all three armed forces. These drones will be equipped with heavy weapons and advanced sensors. They can stay in the air 24/7, monitor enemy activity, locate targets, and carry out precise attacks. These drones will greatly improve surveillance and strike capabilities, especially along India's borders and during missions like surgical strikes. Maintenance for S-400 and super transport aircraft approved The Defence Ministry has also cleared a major yearly maintenance contract for the powerful S-400 air defence system. In addition, initial approval has been given for the maintenance of the Indian Air Force's heavy transport aircraft i.e. the C-17 Globemaster and the C-130J Super Hercules. Why is this deal important? This defence deal is especially important right now, as India faces security challenges from both China and Pakistan. With rising tensions along the LAC (with China) and the LoC (with Pakistan), India is now strengthening its defence with high-tech equipment. These upgrades will help not just in monitoring the borders but also in giving a strong response when needed.
