The Barologist in Leith, Edinburgh, was once a much-loved trendy boozer offering posh cocktails at prices as high as £12.95. But last month, bosses at the Commercial Street pub announced it would shut its doors after several years in business. The shutters came down on May 17, with the owners heading down south to start afresh. Now the much-loved venue has reopened just weeks later and has been transformed into a lively sports bar under new management. Now renamed The Sandport Tavern, the pub boasts a fresh new look, with £12.95 cocktails swapped out for £3 pints. Punters can now enjoy weekly pub quizzes and live sports screenings. The revamped boozer has also partnered with local favourite Pizza Geeks to serve freshly made pizzas. The new owners are set to unveil a new drinks menu which will also include a selection of cocktails to complement the offerings. The Sandport Tavern is serving pints of Tennents for just £3 throughout the month of June. We told previously how the Leith boozer's former owners will be opening a new venue up in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Elsewhere, a popular Scots beer brand is offering unlimited steak on Father's Day. They revealed they would be shutting up shop in weeks, announcing their final day will be on May 17. A message was posted to their official social media thanking those who had visited over the years. Their statement on Facebook read: "After many wonderful years, The Barologist in Leith will close its doors on 17.05.2025. "It's been an incredible journey serving the people of Leith and the wider Edinburgh community — thank you for all the memories, support, and good times!" And punters were quick to respond to the bad news, thanking them for their service over the years. One said: "Thank you all for making me feel like one of the family. I wish you all the best for the next chapter in their working life. "You are all fantastic and I will miss you." A second person replied: "It'll not be the same without you." Another wrote: "I'm totally gutted." The bar's owners announced a new Barologist will be opening up in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. And they will still be stopping around the country as they take their drinks on tour. Their post continued: "We're thrilled to announce that a brand new Barologist is opening in Harrogate! "Stay tuned to see our journey as we take on a new venue. "You can still catch us on the move with The Barologist on Tour, bringing our cocktails to events and venues across the country."

More info A popular Edinburgh cocktail bar and restaurant is set to close later this month, leaving customers gutted. The Barologist, on Commercial Street, will close its doors on May 17 after "an incredible journey" over the last seven years. In a post on Facebook bosses did not give a reason for the sudden closure, but said a new Barologist venue is set to open in Harrogate and did not rule out a return to Edinburgh in the future. The post read: "After many wonderful years, The Barologist in Leith will close its doors on 17.05.2025. "It's been an incredible journey serving the people of Leith and the wider Edinburgh community — thank you for all the memories, support, and good times! "We're thrilled to announce that a brand new Barologist is opening in Harrogate! Stay tuned to see our journey as we take on a new venue. "Plus — you can still catch us on the move with The Barologist on Tour, bringing our cocktails to events and venues across the country. Follow this account if you don't already to stay updated! "We hope to return to Edinburgh in the future if the perfect venue comes along." Dozens of punters have since left comments on the post since the announcement on Thursday. One wrote: "Sorry to read this - I loved this venue and the team! All the best with the new venue." A second said: "Going to miss all the fantastic staff who I now regard as lovely friends ," while a third added: "Had many great nights entertaining everyone in here."

A Leith cocktail bar is about to go 'On Tour' with their new drinks trailer offering a service for festivals and events. The Barologist located by The Shore have unveiled the new vehicle which will be staffed by skilled bartenders offering to create a variety of well-known and unique tasty cocktails. The trailer will be at Leith Market on June 12 and July 12 to showcase their quirky new piece of kit for locals. The Barologist said they also hope to bring their mobile bar to weddings and other special occasions for those after something a bit different.
