‘Breaking about every rule in the book': Suspected meth dealer busted in Lancaster after controlled buy
LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Lancaster man was arrested during a traffic stop Monday and now faces several drug-related offenses. Investigators with the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Narcotics Task Force made a controlled buy of suspected methamphetamine from Gay at his home in Lancaster last month. Warrants were obtained for Distribution of Methamphetamine and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance in Proximity to Connection Park. With the warrants in hand, investigators searched for Gay and found him alone driving a Honda Accord with a dealer tag near the intersection of 10th Street and Great Falls Highway Monday afternoon. Gay was stopped and taken into custody on the outstanding warrants. His car was searched, and investigators found an unlocked safe which contained 218.04 grams of suspected methamphetamine, ten pills suspected to be clonazepam and 25.21 grams of suspected marijuana. Gay also had $13,580 cash in a box. Investigators later discovered Gay's driver's license was suspended, and he had no insurance on the Accord. An open bottle of beer was also found in Gay's pocket. Gay was transported to the Lancaster County Detention Center. In addition to the distribution and proximity charges for the April controlled buy, Gay is charged with the following: Trafficking Methamphetamine 200-400 Grams Possession with Intent to Distribute Clonazepam Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana Driving under Suspension 3d or Subsequent Offense Habitual Traffic Offender He was also issued traffic tickets for Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Open Container. Gay appeared before a magistrate Tuesday afternoon. He got a $2,100 personal recognizance bond on the DUS charge, and bond was denied on the other charges. Gay was breaking about every rule in the book when he was stopped yesterday. This is a lot of Methamphetamine, and certainly far more than one person would be expected to use. This quantity of Methamphetamine along with the other drugs and cash suggest we interrupted many more sales of Methamphetamine by locating Gay and taking him into custody. I appreciate the efforts of the Task Force investigators in locating Gay when they did.
