Bahrain Highlights Peaceful Innovation at Global Parliamentary Conference in Geneva

Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful innovation as a key driver of sustainable development and stability during the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva from July 29 to 31. Dr. Bassam Ismail Al-BenMohammed, a Shura Council member and representative of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, said that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bahrain has built a comprehensive national framework to support innovation in governance. He explained that this approach not only enhances digital transparency but also empowers young people and civil society to contribute meaningfully to decision-making, while keeping pace with global changes in a way that balances national values with international developments. Speaking at a panel discussion titled 'Innovation for a Peaceful Future and New Solutions for a Turbulent World,' Dr. Al-BenMohammed highlighted Bahrain's achievements in developing legislation that supports peaceful innovation and the knowledge economy. These include landmark laws on personal data protection, cybercrime, electronic transactions, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property—reflecting the Kingdom's clear political will to use innovation as a tool for stability and long-term peace. 'Innovation for peace is not a luxury or just a slogan,' he said. 'It is a conscious political act, reflected in forward-looking legislation, effective oversight, and fair partnerships that restore people's confidence in peaceful change. Every law passed with foresight and every transparent decision is an innovation that serves human stability.' Bahrain's delegation to the conference also included Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives. The event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in cooperation with the United Nations, carried the theme 'A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace and Justice for All.'
