BATMAN BEYOND Voice Actor Will Friedle Explains Why He Won't Return as Terry McGinnis - 'I Don't Know If I Could Do It Again' — GeekTyrant
Fans hoping to see Will Friedle return as the voice of Terry McGinnis in a Batman Beyond project might want to temper their expectations. At a recent panel at Animate! Columbus 2025, Friedle made it clear that revisiting the role without the late Kevin Conroy by his side just doesn't feel right. 'If you asked me that question three years ago, the answer would be, 'Oh my god, yes. Get me in front of the microphone right now.' 'Now that Kevin's gone, I don't know if I could do it again. I think they would need to recast both roles. Being Terry and not having him answer as Bruce, I don't think I could do it.' Friedle's comments echo a similar sentiment shared by Mark Hamill, who officially retired from voicing the Joker in 2023. When asked at Fan Expo San Francisco whether he'd ever return to the role, Hamill famously replied: 'Without Batman, crime has no punch line.' Both actors last stepped into their iconic roles for the Crisis on Infinite Earths animated trilogy. Since then, the absence of Conroy, who passed away in 2022 from intestinal cancer at the age of 66, has left a noticeable void in the animated Bat-verse. Conroy portrayed Bruce Wayne for over 30 years across animation, games, and even live-action in The CW's Crisis crossover. His final gift to fans, the autobiographical comic Finding Batman, can be read for free on DC's website. Friedle, best known in the '90s as Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World , carved out a second career as a prolific voice actor with roles in Kim Possible , Transformers: Robots in Disguise , Guardians of the Galaxy , and of course, Batman Beyond . The series, created by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett, ran from 1999 to 2001 and introduced audiences to a new kind of Batman… Terry McGinnis, a rebellious teenager mentored by a much older Bruce Wayne in a cyberpunk Gotham of 2039.

Review – Justice League Unlimited #8: Time's End
Justice League Unlimited #8 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: It's the final chapter of 'We Are Yesterday', a cosmic epic that saw the Legion of Doom of the past make their way to the present, courtesy of a Gorilla Grodd upgraded with Martian Manhunter's psychic abilities. The last chapter saw both sides bring their big guns – the heroes recruited allies from across the past and future of the DCU, including Batman Beyond and a very confused Jonah Hex. Meanwhile, Grodd fully absorbed the leftover Omega Energy left by Darkseid and essentially turned himself into a God. And then there's Air Wave, who was tricked into betraying the Justice League and was seemingly killed – but now finds himself channeling the same energy that Grodd does, making him the only hope the heroes do. This is the setup for a packed final issue – one with a ton of combat and some surprisingly great character work that leaves a lot of potential for future stories. Dark rising. Via DC Comics. Easily one of my favorite bits about this issue is the way the heroes from the past and future interact with the present day, and given the ending, it seems like there might be quite a bit more of these fun bits going forward. You also have a surprising spotlight for Martian Manhunter, who unlike Barry Allen is staying active with the heroes and waging a real fight to get his powers back. Most of the Legion of Doom is out of focus this issue besides Grodd (and Joker getting a well-deserved beating), but Pythoness continues to be interesting. This character came seemingly out of nowhere, is dead in this timeline, and has her own agenda. I'm guessing Waid has some big plans for her. What intrigues me the most about this issue is the way it leaves so many unanswered questions, with the nature of time in the DCU being radically changed by the outcome. Fun, smaller-scale crossover that's likely leading up to something very big. To find reviews of all the DC issues, visit DC This Week. GeekDad received this comic for review purposes. Liked it? Review – Birds of Prey #21: One Down
Birds of Prey #21 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Last issue kicked off the most high-octane mission of the Birds yet, as the entire team was deputized to prevent a tech heist. But whatever the technology at play was, it became clear this was about something much bigger. Black Canary and the duo of Cassandra Cain and Sin both came under attack by coordinated supervillain teams, while Big Barda was infiltrating a building in Dubai when she found out that the entire building was a disguised rocket that blasted of, then detonated with her in it. Enough to kill just about anyone – but not Big Barda. It is enough to knock her out cold, though – which means she's in her armor as she rockets down to Earth like a meteor and creates a crater. Which is exactly what the villain was counting on. That's about when Inque steps in, testing the best way to inject Barda with…something and get her nice and docile for the main villain's master plan. Moving fast. Via DC Comics. Of course, the addition of the ruthless Batman Beyond villain is a big fan-favorite development here. More and more elements of that future continuity have been working their way into the DCU in recent years. But she's not the main villain here – that's Daemon Prime, a mysterious techno-villain who has been puppeteering everyone around the world. There's a sense of urgency to this issue that's hard to find in superhero comics, as the heroes realize they haven't just been outfought – they've been outplanned, and the villains are one step ahead of them the whole time. From the tension between Oracle and Black Canary to the uneasy bonding between Cass and sin, this crisis is bringing out both the best and the worst in the team – but nothing prepared me for the reveal of exactly what the villains needed Barda for. The stakes are sky-high in this arc, and that makes it one of the most entertaining arcs yet. To find reviews of all the DC issues, visit DC This Week.
