2 jailed in armed robbery at Florence County hotel
FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Two people have been arrested by Florence County deputies after an armed robbery at a Florence-area hotel, the sheriff's office said Friday. Xavier Malik Blow, 38, was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and criminal conspiracy. Keith Lavontai Cooper, 29, faces the same charges. Deputies responded at about 8 p.m. for a reported robbery at the Baymont Inn on Lucas Street, according to the sheriff's office. The two allegedly entered a room, presented a gun and took money from the victim. Both Blow and Cooper were booked into the Florence County Detention Center on Thursday and remain in jail without bond as of Friday afternoon. * * * Caleb is a digital producer at News13. Charlotte nonprofit responds to claims about housing site sale following death investigation
A woman and a child were found dead inside a hotel room on Friday. Now, a former owner of the building is responding to allegations about who they sold the hotel to. The building at the 5000 block of Equipment Drive was originally Heal Charlotte, a transitional housing site. Heal Charlotte's lease ended on April 7 and then transitioned back into its previous ownership as Baymont Inn, Heal Charlotte said in a statement. Dean was previously arrested following a dispute with a tenant, The Charlotte Observer reported. Heal Charlotte issued a statement to clarify that it did not sell its property to Cedric Dean: 'I hope this message finds you well. I want to address a deeply concerning and completely false rumor—that I personally purchased the Baymont Inn and sold it to Cedric Dean or his entities. Let me be absolutely clear: this is not true. Heal Charlotte has no ownership stake in the Baymont Inn and no formal or informal relationship with Cedric Dean or Cedric Dean Holdings. We received no funds from Cedric Dean, Cedric Dean Holdings, or the Baymont Inn. Here are the facts about our funding from the City of Charlotte: $2 million was allocated specifically for a master lease of the Baymont Inn to provide transitional housing. $250,000 was designated for program operations. The first payment issued was $1,075,000, which included: $1 million for the initial lease payment. $75,000 for operations. The second payment was $1 million for the second lease installment. The final $150,000 was reimbursement-based, released only after documentation was submitted and approved by City staff." At some point, the girl was left alone with Pierce in a room while the mother and sister took items to the car, according to the documents. The warrant charged him with rape, child molesting, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. He was also charged with confinement where the victim is under 14 years of age. PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS Pierce had previously pleaded guilty to two different child molestation charges back in 2016. Indiana's Sex Offender Registry has listed Pierce as a "sexually violent predator" in its records. He was convicted in February and March 2016 in Hendricks and Marion County, respectively, for child molesting. He was sentenced to eight years in prison at the time. Pierce has been missing since Tuesday and was last spotted at a local Regal 8 Inn in Indianapolis.

Mother shoots convicted child molester as he tried to rape 12-year-old daughter at hotel: reports
A mother shot and wounded a convicted child molester after she found him allegedly trying to rape her 12-year-old daughter inside an Indianapolis motel room Saturday, according to reports. The mother walked in on Bruce Pierce, of Indianapolis, allegedly on top of her child as the preteen repeatedly said no, leading up to the gunfire at the Baymont Inn, court documents state. The young victim's grandmother told police that Pierce had been talking with the 12-year-old online and over the phone, trying to persuade her to leave town with him, according to the documents obtained by WTHR Wednesday. Indiana Sex Offender Registry The day of the shooting, the victim and her sister woke up their grandmother when their mother didn't come home. They went to the inn, where they found the mom and Pierce in the lobby. At one point, the girl was left alone in the room with Pierce while the mother and sister took items to the car because the preteen wasn't feeling well, the documents state. Advertisement Pierce took the opportunity to allegedly pin her arms to the bed and start ripping some of her clothes before the mother burst in, the documents state. The young victim was able to get away as the mother opened fire on Pierce, who also allegedly had a gun in his hand, according to the docs. Mother and daughter fled the hotel with their other relatives in the car and called police. Pierce was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but is not yet in custody, according to the station.
