Screams, Sweat & Sriracha: Inside Egypt's Biggest F&B Showdown

Million Pound Menu is what happens when serving shisha and streaming BeIn Sports on five screens no longer counts as a business model. There was a time roughly five years ago - which in Egypt's F&B timeline counts as the Mamluk dynasty - when launching a successful restaurant required exactly two things: an industrial-strength shisha setup and at least five flatscreens showing BeIn Sports on loop. It didn't matter what was playing. Football, fencing, underwater synchronized wrestling - just keep the screens on and the smoke billowing, and you were in business. Plates were optional. If you served food on actual ceramic instead of cardboard, congratulations - you were officially 'fine dining.' But then, something deeply unsettling happened: people started caring. About ingredients. About concepts. About décor that didn't involve laminated menus and LED strip lights in seven shades of anxiety. And just like that, Egypt's F&B scene began evolving at a pace typically reserved for Dubai Bling and bread prices. It's now one of the fastest-growing industries in the country - second only to our waist-to-hip ratios, which, much like sourdough starters, are expanding with alarming enthusiasm. Entering the food scene with all the subtlety of a fajita platter in a silent dining room is Million Pound Menu - a reality show that dares Egypt's most ambitious culinary hopefuls to do the unthinkable: open a fully functioning restaurant, impress a panel of hardened investors, and survive 48 hours without weeping into the beurre blanc. Produced by IMPCO (co-founded by Amr Mansi and Ahmed Luxor - the same duo behind Shark Tank), the show hands three chefs per episode a pop-up space in District 5 by Marakez, where they must prove that their concept amounts to more than a mood board and a well-lit Instagram grid. Real diners show up (after registering online, naturally). Real money is at stake. And yes, someone eventually plates a single scallop adorned with interpretive microgreens and calls it a 'journey.' Presiding over this polite chaos is a panel of actual industry operators - not consultants, not lifestyle bloggers, but people who've endured breakfast service on the first day of Eid. We're talking Mirette Aly (The Lemon Tree & Co.), Ayman Baky (Baky Hospitality), Mohamed Abdelhak (Mo Bistro), Omar Fathy (Eatery), Loay Torky (Buffalo Burger), and Sameh El Sadat (The Bakery Shop). Between them, they've launched hospitality empires, survived menu overhauls, and most likely extinguished a fire caused by a flaming wheel of imported cheese. They determine which chef can make the leap from dreamer to operator - which, in industry terms, is the chasm between having a poetic concept about pickled turnips and actually sourcing, storing, pricing, and justifying them to a customer who believes their sandwich should arrive faster because they 'followed you on Instagram.' Because these days, launching a restaurant is less about culinary innovation and more about surviving a soft launch full of entitled friends, a supply chain held together with duct tape and denial, and a walk-in fridge that's one sausage wheel away from quitting. Still, one winner walked away with real capital, real mentorship, and the mildly terrifying promise of turning a vision into a viable, brick-and-mortar reality. It's part dream, part pressure cooker - and in this economy, perhaps the most optimistic gamble one can make.

Egypt's Marmoush appreciates Guardiola and teammates support - Talents Abroad

Egyptian international winger Omar Marmoush has expressed his gratitude for the support he received from Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola and his teammates since joining the club this winter. The 25-year-old forward has impressed with his energy and work ethic, scoring three goals in eight appearances so far this season. "I've gained more confidence working with Pep Guardiola, who I consider the best coach in the world. I give my best in every game," Marmoush told BeIn Sports. "Manchester City's players have helped me perform at my best, and the atmosphere in the team is superb," the Egyptian winger added. The Premier League champions completed the signing of Marmoush from German side Eintracht Frankfurt in January, securing him on a four-and-a-half-year contract for a reported fee of £59 million. Marmoush had been a standout performer in the Bundesliga, impressing with his versatility and ability to excel in any position across the front three. His arrival at Manchester City addresses a pressing need for the team, which has faced challenges this season. Headliners Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks have a score to settle at ONE 171: Qatar

The last time Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks were in Qatar, the night didn't go to plan for either man. Brooks, at the time, was the ONE Strawweight MMA world champion but a mistimed slam inside the first two minutes of their clash resulted in a disqualification, a stripped title – and Pacio having to be helped from the cage. It wasn't the way the Filipino wanted to reclaim his title, but now the pair get the chance to do it all again at ONE 171: Qatar. While Pacio was fortunate to escape serious injury after being spiked on the top of his head by Brooks, it has been a troublesome knee injury that has kept him out of competition – and this week's bout will be his first since that day in March last year. On the flip side, American Brooks has kept himself busy. A first round submission of Gustavo Balart handed him the interim strawweight title in Pacio's absence. Then in December he decided to make a temporary move to flyweight to take on Reece McLaren. A split-decision loss over five rounds was not the result Brooks wanted, but he certainly came out of it with no credibility damage. Now at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar, the two will meet for a third time – to finally unify the strawweight class. Pacio has made the walk to the cage 17 times in ONE Championship since debuting in 2016, and is a three-time strawweight champion. Every time he has suffered adversity in his career, the 29-year-old has always returned stronger, and while he's not coming off a loss – almost a year out of action through injury will always leave some question marks. For Brooks this is a day of redemption, for a title lost on a technicality, and the opportunity for him to reclaim what he believes to be rightfully his. A clash of styles, and a clash of personalities – this is the blockbuster main event the Qatar fans have been waiting for. You can watch ONE 171: Qatar, which takes place on Thursday February 20th at 5pm Mecca at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar. For ticket information, click here. Alternatively, you can watch the event live on BeIn Sports or at

Qatar threatens to withdraw investment from PSG & BeIn Sports over Nasser Al-Khelaifi indictment

A bombshell has hit the French capital this morning. According to a report from Agence France Presse, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was indicted on 5th February with charges of 'complicity in vote-buying and infringement on voting freedom,' as well as 'complicity in abuse of power' in a case relating to French businessman Arnaud Lagardère and a reported attempt to influence a crucial vote by the Qatari sovereign fund that was a shareholder in his news of Al-Khelaifi's charges has clearly resonated in Doha, with Qatari officials reportedly threatening to withdraw investments in France – including BeIn Sports and Paris Saint-Germain. This is according to a report from journalist Arthur Perrot.'The Qataris have had enough of these abuses. False legal proceedings, blackmail, daily criticism, being blamed for the total incompetence of others—every problem in France is their fault. Every time they try to help, it's supposedly for 'soft power.' This is pure abuse, and everyone has had enough,' a source close to the Qatari government even stated to RMC Sport. This is not the first time Al-Khelaifi has been the target of legal proceedings. His indictment for corruption in the Qatar bids for the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships was dismissed in February 2023 by France's Court of Cassation, which ruled that the French judiciary had no jurisdiction over the matter. Parisian judges are also investigating accusations of kidnapping and detention in Qatar, allegedly involving French-Algerian lobbyist Tayeb Benabderrahmane. Al-Khelaifi has denied these claims and has filed a counter-complaint.|
