'Prettiest' UK beach no one knows about with stunning sea arches and added bonus
The UK has some of the world's best beaches to visit and if you're after the 'prettiest' UK beach, this one is ideal for summer holidays - and it's dog friendly all year round One of the 'prettiest beaches' in the UK makes for a perfect summer getaway, where you can feel sand between your toes whilst gazing out at breathtaking azure waters - and it welcomes dogs all year round. It's been hailed as one of the most tranquil coastlines to explore and sits tucked between other magnificent beaches, meaning the wider region can 'accommodate countless visitors' whilst some areas stay peaceful even during busy periods. Immaculate golden sands, ideal for youngsters and grown-ups alike, await at one of the Gower Peninsula's most spectacular coves, positioned along Wales' southern coastline. A mere 45-minute journey from Swansea city centre, the crescent-shaped Blue Pool Bay nestles between two other remarkable beaches, Rhossili and Broughton. The bay also boasts an enormous rock pool that becomes accessible during high tide, offering this charming stretch of coast a distinctive draw for holidaymakers. Travel blogger Oh What A Knight wrote about the location: "The main feature and attraction of the bay is a large natural circular rock pool at the western end of the beach.", reports the Express. "At 15ft wide and 8ft deep it's the perfect natural swimming pool and even deep enough to jump into from the rocks above." Nevertheless, anyone thinking of taking the plunge should exercise caution as the massive natural rock pool can sometimes fill with sand and become 'shallower than usual', making it essential to check both depth and tidal conditions beforehand. The rock pool sits at the water's edge and becomes filled as the tide rolls in, whilst Blue Pool Bay beach itself only emerges during low tide. The Oh What A Knight blog also noted that the beach itself is 'only accessible around two hours either side of low tide'. Tide timings vary each day - so ensure you verify the tide schedule before your visit, though the beach's 'remoteness and lack of access make this one of the quietest beaches on the Peninsula', the blogger noted. The Beach Guide outlined the secluded cove location: "Blue Pool Bay is one of the Gower Peninsula's prettiest bays and also one of the quietest. "This is thanks to the fact it can only be reached on foot from Broughton just under a mile away. "It also helps that the little bay lies between the vast expanses of Rhossili and Broughton beaches which can soak up any number of visitors. "The bay at Blue Pool is like a rocky bite out of the coastline which has been filled by a stretch of pristine golden sand. "The name of the beach comes from a supersized rock pool (about 15ft across) on the eastern side of the bay. "The Blue Pool was once said to be bottomless, although this is not the case, it is up to 8 metres deep at high tide. "This makes it popular for diving / tombstoning - although this is never without risk. "On occasion the Blue Pool can fill with sand and therefore be much shallower than usual. It is therefore important to check the depth before diving in or tombstoning."

Hidden beach no one knows about is hiding amazing secret
Secret beach with fabulous views set within a rugged coastline surrounded by woodland - this county is becomes extremely busy in the summer holidays, but you can get away from the crowds at this spot Many of us want to escape the crowds in summertime but finding a beach with room for your towel - or even a flannel - can be a challenge when the sun shines. But one hidden cove framed by forest is in such a remote spot - and it holds a secret that highlights just how out of sight the beach is. Noted for its remoteness, this concealed Devon beach was no doubt frequented by smugglers centuries ago, but it also holds another secret from the Second World War - a German boat came ashore and was not spotted, due to the isolated nature of the small beach. The rocky cove of Heddon's Mouth is located on the north side of the county, nestled on the North Devon coast between Combe Martin and Lynton. Getting to the rocky shore which has 'super-sized pebbles' is about an hour-long hike, but the stunning views make it worthwhile. The Beach Guide website describes the cove as sitting at the mouth of the River Heddon which has 'carved a deep valley to the rear of the beach'. The Beach Guide website explains the location: 'The beach here is made up of medium sized rounded rocks, like super-sized pebbles. The (small) river runs down the middle of the beach and to either side cliffs rise up. "This is a fairly out of the way spot and is mostly visited by ramblers these days. In the past it was a favourite haunt of smugglers who appreciated its remoteness. 'In fact the cove is so isolated that during World War II the crew of a German U-Boat were able to come ashore in search of fresh water and relaxation without the fear of being spotted.' You are able to park nearby, before taking on the hour-long hike to the cove, needless to say, there are no shops when you reach the destination so you'll need to go prepared. The secluded pebbly cove is well hidden by the cliffs that tower around it. One Google reviewer describes Heddon's Mouth: 'This is a stone and large pebble beach at the mouth of the River Heddon. There is plenty of parking and it's just past the Hunter's Inn - a word of warning the back roads are very tight. 'Then it's a hike through a wooded area alongside the flowing river. Near the end you'll cross over a bridge to the other side and along to the beach. The river flows into the pebbles and sort of disappears and then reappears as several streams running down to the sea.' Also reviewing the place on Google, Erin Urban wrote: 'Wonderful short walk to the sea with spectacular cliffs and rocky shoreline. The path is well maintained. 'The stones can be uneven and rocky in places. I recommend thicker soles or sturdy boots for those with sensitive feet. There is one place on the main path that has loose rock. 'You can walk on either side of the stream for half of the journey and switch on the way back for variety. Lunch and tea is available at the Lodge by the carpark.'

Beach and Boating forecast: June 5, 2025
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — As the first week of June officially comes to a close, temperatures remain on the cooler side with wildfire smoke limiting sunshine this weekend. Temperatures remain near average for this time of year with highs in the low to mid-70s this weekend. Unlike last weekend, the winds will be quite calm. Both Friday and Saturday will have a north/northeast wind at 5 to 10 miles per hour. Sunday will be a touch breezy with a south wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour. Some yellow flags may fly then with wave heights at 1 to 3 feet. Due to the limited sunshine and near average temperatures, water temperatures have only warmed a few degrees this week. Most beaches are reporting temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. The average temperature in Lake Michigan for early June typically sits near 50 degrees. While these water temperatures remain near average for this time of the year, any water temperature below 60 degrees can pose a safety threat. If more than a few minutes are spent in the water, cold water shock and hypothermia can set in. The good news? Water temperatures typically warm around 10 degrees throughout the month of June! The peak temperature sits in the low 70s for early to mid August. Lake Michigan Summer Beach Guide Sunday will start off quite pleasant at the lakeshore with sunshine and highs reaching near 70 degrees. By the evening, a cold front is set to sweep through bringing the chance for some showers and thunderstorms. At this time, no severe weather is expected. Lingering showers will continue Monday and Tuesday. Air quality took a dip Thursday morning, with most of West Michigan reporting in the uncomfortable to unhealthy range. Those who are sensitive should limit time outdoors. An air quality alerts remains in effect for Newaygo, Oceana, and Mecosta counties throughout Thursday. While cloud cover will limit the sunset this evening, the wildfire smoke can make the sunset look a bit more vibrant. As the light interacts with the smoke in the lower levels of the atmosphere, the sun tends to look bright red.
