Beach hazard: Swimmers warned to stay out of Lake Erie on Thursday

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Swimmers are being urged to stay out of Lake Erie on Thursday due to a higher risk for rip currents.
The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazard Statement for several Northeast Ohio counties along Lake Erie.

The advisory will be in effect for Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake and Ashtabula counties, as well as Erie County in Pennsylvania, from Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
According to the NWS, a high risk of rip currents is expected during that time.

Experts warn that these currents can 'carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake.'
According to the FOX 8 weather team, Thursday will bring a few spotty showers in the southern region of our viewing area, but conditions will be mostly dry.
