Steelers' Beanie Bishop Throws Shade at Jets
UNITY TWP, Pa. — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop threw shade at the New York Jets when asked why he and Brandin Echols bring so much energy to practice. 'Obviously him coming from the Jets, winning isn't something they do a lot of and things like that. It's just something you want to do is go out and celebrate with your teammates,' Bishop said. Bishop certainly didn't hold back. However, it is true that the Jets have not won a lot in recent years, as they're coming off 5-12, 7-10 and 7-10 seasons. Nevertheless, putting it out in the media could provide some extra motivation for the Jets, who are the Steelers' Week 1 opponent. Bishop had two interceptions off Aaron Rodgers in last year's Steelers-Jets meeting, a 37-15 victory for Pittsburgh. Of course, Rodgers is now in the Black and Gold. The Week 1 showdown between the Steelers and Jets has a slew of headlines. Rodgers returns to MetLife Stadium after a nasty breakup with the Jets organization. Jets QB Justin Fields will also be out for revenge on the Steelers. Rodgers is not afraid to speak his mind, especially when someone crosses him. That was the case with the Jets this offseason when they released the four-time NFL MVP. How the Jets handled the whole situation did not sit well with Rodgers. 'That's the way it goes sometimes,' Rodgers told Kyle Brandt of NFL Network when asked about the Steelers facing the Jets in Week 1. 'Did they have any inside information? I don't know. Who were they talking to? I don't know. But, start off with the Jets, then play Seattle, where DK (Metcalf) just came from… But I'm excited. Get to play the Jets, play the Packers, play the Bears, play the Vikings. It'll be fun.' According to former NFL offensive lineman Mark Schlereth, who is a close friend of Rodgers, the future Hall of Fame quarterback went on a long-winded rant about how dysfunctional the Jets' organization was during his two-year tenure. 'Aaron and I had a conversation about when he was with the Jets was how abysmal their running game was and how schematically it made no sense,' Schlereth said on The Stinkin Truth Podcast in June. 'I started the conversation, and then Aaron went on for about a 25-minute diatribe on just their run game.' During an interview with Pat McAfee in April, Rodgers recounted flying to New York to meet with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, and that meeting going very poorly. 'I think we're gonna have this long conversation,' Rodgers said. 'I've flown across the country. Twenty seconds in … I'm talking to the GM about something and [Glenn] leans to the edge of his seat and goes, 'So, do you want to play football?' 'And I was like, 'Yeah, I'm interested.' 'Then he says, 'We're going in a different direction at quarterback.'' Glenn is not worried about the media attention heading into the Week 1 game against the Steelers at MetLife Stadium. 'This is the NFL. And, to me, every game there's a lot of noise because they're so critical — as far as wins and losses,' he said. 'We want to try and accumulate as many wins as we can, and I don't care who that opponent is.' Rodgers would love nothing more than to get back at his former team. The same could be said for the Jets organization, as well. Brendan Howe provided reporting from St. Vincent College. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 31: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 31 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 31 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 31 wearer: CB Beanie Bishop One of the most surprising rookie breakouts last season — CB Beanie Bishop is the current No. 31 wearer on the Steelers roster. After signing with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft, Bishop clearly had a chip on his shoulder — snagging four interceptions in just six starts as a rookie. His role in 2025 is expected to be far less impactful after two huge cornerback additions this offseason in Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey, but his development should skyrocket with two veteran presences in the secondary. Last five Steelers to wear No. 31: Best No. 31 in Steelers history: S Donnie Shell The greatest Steeler to wear No. 31 is without a doubt S Donnie Shell — who signed with Pittsburgh after going undrafted in the 1974 NFL Draft. Over the course of 14 seasons from 1974 to 1987, Shell played in 201 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers — responsible for 51 interceptions, the third-most by a Steeler all time. During his Pittsburgh tenure, Shell won four Super Bowls alongside the legendary Steel Curtain defense — as well as being named to five Pro Bowls, earning three First-Team All-Pro selections, and one Second-Team All-Pro selection. He was also recognized and celebrated on the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team, the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020. Shell's impact on the game and his part in creating the Steel City dynasty is why he's the best Steeler to ever wear No. 31. 3 sleepers we are rooting for to make the 53-man roster
The Pittsburgh Steelers are just days away from their first preseason game of the year. This will be the first opportunity the coaches will get to see many of these young players in live action as they fight for their spots on the roster. The Steelers are taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars and here are the three guys we will be rooting for to play well and secure their spot on the 53-man roster. WR Roc Taylor Taylor is a guy who should have been drafted and was a big UDFA addition. His game and measurables are NFL caliber and he's making plays every day in training camp practice. There has been a lot of hype and hope surrounding Roman Wilson but Taylor has been the better receiver so far. G Max Scharping No player has taken better advantage of their opportunities than Scharping. He's shown he can play four spots on the offensive line and has proven himself to be incredibly valuable for an offensive line with lots of questions. CB Beanie Bishop It's crazy to think that the starting nickel cornerback from last season might not make the team but Pittsburgh has loaded up at cornerbacks and Bishop might end up the odd man out. We like Bishop's demeanor and style of play and hope he can win a place on the 53-man roster. Pittsburgh Steelers' Beanie Bishop Explains Why He Disgraced Pittsburgh Panthers' Logo
Pittsburgh Steelers' Beanie Bishop Explains Why He Disgraced Pittsburgh Panthers' Logo originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the most bitter rivalries in all of college football is the Backyard Brawl, played between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Panthers. Advertisement The two schools have faced off in the rivalry 107 times, dating back to 1895. The game was played annually from 1943 to 2011, before Pitt joined the Big East and West Virginia joined the Big 12. The rivalry was reignited with a four-game series from 2022 to 2025, and the two schools have agreed to play another four game set from 2029 to 2032. Pitt leads the series 63-41-3, including a 15-game winning streak from 1929-1946. It's one of the most heated rivalries in college football, and arguably the most intense rivalry in the eastern United States. Pittsburgh Steelers' cornerback Beanie Bishop, a former Mountaineer, posted himself wiping his cleats on Pitts' logo, which started a social media frenzy. 'It's a rivalry, obviously people are not going to like me based on what school I went to and that's fine,' Bishop told Steelers media on Wednesday. 'It's part of the rivalry. We don't like those guys and they don't like us. I don't really have any liking for those guys, that's part of it... Advertisement "...That's self-explanatory. If you go and ask them, they probably hate me. Do I care? No, not really?" Bishop continued. "That's just part of it. If you go ask any fan in Baltimore 'what do they think about the Steelers?' They hate us. It is what it is. It's part of the rivalry. I'm only concerned with the Pittsburgh Steelers fans and West Virginia fans in that instance.' The Steelers hold their training camp at the UMPC Rooney Sports Complex, a facility shared by both the Steelers and the Panthers. Bishop must feel like practicing behind enemy lines, training on Panthers turf. Bishop also noted on Tuesday that he does not enjoy having Pitt players and coaches watch him practice. "It's hatred. You don't have respect for those guys." Bishop told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Christopher Carter. "I don't even like seeing their coaches and players watching us practice ... I don't think it should be week 2 or week 3. It should be part of rivalry week."
