MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way

MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way I wasn't familiar with MLB's Beat the Streak game until today, and I really wish I were learning about it under better circumstances -- like, say, someone reaching a record-streak of 57 straight picks to win $5.6 million. Unfortunately, I bring to you news of someone who came so tantalizingly close to the money just to see their streak end in the most crushing way possible. Beat the Streak user "Iotank" was riding a 50-game streak into Monday when they picked Oakland Athletics rookie Jacob Wilson to get a hit against the Houston Astros. It made sense. Wilson was hitting .367 on the season and had a hit in all but one game this month. But it was all good 'til it wasn't. Wilson was 0-for-3 going into his final at-bat in the eighth, and that's when this happened. That's a bloop into shallow right field that would have been a hit if not for there already being a runner on first base who had to stay close to the bag in case the ball was caught. However, the ball wasn't caught, so once it landed safely on the ground, the runner was forced out at second, which correctly resulted in an out for Wilson. Streak over. That is an absolutely brutal way for this chase for millions to end.

MLB ‘Beat the Streak' user loses 50-game run in most brutal fashion

Major League Baseball's 'Beat the Streak' game remains undefeated. On Monday night, user 'lotank' had their 50-game streak come to an end in a gut-punching way, ending their shot at reaching 57 games straight and winning $5.6 million. lotank picked A's rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson to get a hit as they looked to extend their streak to 51, which would have brought them to just six games from the prize money. Getty Images Wilson, who was hitting .367 heading into the contest, went 0-for-3 heading into what would eventually be his final at-bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. On a 1-2 pitch with a runner on first and one out, Wilson blooped a ball into no-man's land in right-field and appeared to get his first knock of the night — and extending lotank's streak to 51. An inning later, Nick Kurtz would hit a walk-off home run, giving the A's the win but ending lotank's incredible run. lotank was just two picks away from breaking the longest streak in the game's history of 51, which was twice, once in 2017 and again in 2019.
